Hi guys i hope everyones ok back home. Im fine the weathers reaaly good here it been 31 degrees today and its really humid!!
Well ill start where i left you on the 27/10/07, i didn't really do to much that day as id just arrived so i just had a wonder round Alice, i booked my 5 day red centre tour to uluru for the next day and then went and got some food for dinner. had dinner watched a bit of telly and went to bed. Oh and i popped my blister!!! it was the biggest ever and which id got from a bite in Kakadu. so it had been there getting on a week and was massive about the size of a 10 pence piece!! it had to go so i popped it and dressed it to stop it getting infected and it worked the plaster is now off and its looking ok but you'll be able to see it for a long time yet!!
Anyway back to the stuff you want to know about! the details to the pics ive already put up. Well i got picked up at 5.55am on the 28/10/07 we drove for about 4 hours to ayers rock resort campsite were we had lunch and then set off to get to Uluru-Kata Tjuta national park, we went to Kata Tjuta first where we did the valley of the winds walked for about 1hr 30 mins it was yet again more rock climbing!! but was ok and the views were good. as it states in its name it was really windy and there were loads of flies!!! which were very iritating! and in the course of the 5 days i think i swallowed at least 4!!! after we'd finished the walk we went to the sun set viewing point for Kata Tjuta which was really nice. we then set off to see the sun set over Uluru, we drove to the viewing point just before sunset and drank wine while we watched the sun go down. it was lovely the changing colour of the rock was cool. we then set off for camp at yulara campsite where we had sausages and steak for dinner with salad it was really nice. it was pretty cold after sunset but i was still thinking that i was in Darwin when i packed!! as i didn't pack a jumper! doh!! it was soooooo cold but i managed to sleep ok with my sleep sheet and sleeping bag.
The next day 29/10/07 was worse! we were up at 4.00am in the morning getting ready and having breakfast ready for a walk around the base of Uluru, it was really cold and everyone was wearing jumpers, but not me!!! i had a vest top and a t shirt on!! it was a 9.4km walk and took just under 2hrs. the rock looked so much different from the bottom than from a distance away. as from a distance it looks kind of straight and flat, but from the base it was really bumpy loads of sticking out rock its hard to discribe! it was worth the walk, and as the sun rose as we were walking round it was so beautiful. after the sun rose it started to warm up thank god!!! but then as normal got to hot!! im never happy!! we went to a culture centre and had a look around which was interesting, we then went back to the rock to do the Mala walk and saw the wave cave and some rock art and then we did the Kuiya walk to a lovely little rock hole where we saw a few pretty birds. we then went back to the camp site to have lunch and pack up as we thrn headed off on another 4 hour road trip to Kings Creek Cattle Station camp site where we started dinner and while it was cooking we watched the sunset on the top of a hill nearby. after another big dinner we went to bed.
On tue 30/10/07 it was another early start at 4.30am as we needed to get to kings canyon early before the heat set in!! we set off on a walk/climb of Kings Canyon at 6.30am and we walked about 7km and it took us about 3hr 30mins it was so beautiful and so high!! Ross our guide took a photo of us all on the edge of this rock!! it was pretty scary to be that high and near the edge, but you should have seen where Ross was when he was taking the photos!!! it was scaryer watching him take the photo than me being near the edge, as he was so much closer to the edge than i was and it looked like he could fall at any moment. after the hike round kings canyon we stopped off at kings canyon resort for lunch which was burgers and they were really gooood! we also got chance to have a swim in there pool it was freezing but really good. we then set off for another 4 hrs ride to Glen helen gorge near the Mac Donnell ranges in the west Mac Donnell national park, to get there we had to go on the mereenie loop or its other name is dirt track!! it was so bumpy! i mean i was trying to sleep!! when we arrived at the camp site we went down to the gorge for a swim it was freezing much colder than the swimming pool early we only lasted about 10 mins then we had to get out before our fingers dropped off!! we then had dinner another great meal of spag bowl the only problem being was the thunder and lighting going on around us and all the rain spraying on us through the flie nets!!! so we got alittle wet during that meal. the lighting was so beautiful we turned out the lights to watch the sky light up it was amazing!! the only problem with the weather was the fact that th toilets were a mile away and id been drinking!!! the next camp site was an alcohol free zone as it was at a dry aboriginal community fines would have been $5000 for us anf around $50000 for Ross and god knows how much for the company so we had to drink all the alcohol before we left. well as most of you are aware alcohol goes straight through me!!!! and going to the loo in the heavy rain was not really what i wanted! i managed to go before it started but after that i had to go again so i put my rain coat on and trudged up to the loos. i knew id need to go again within the next 30 mins so i just stayed in the bathroom!!! i stayed in there about 20 mins the Pam came in so i talked to her for a bit holding out as long as i could so i wouldn't have to get up in the night!!! i walked back with pam it was still raining and we went to bed. unfortunatly i did need the loo again so at 3.00am i again trudged to the loo in the rain and on the way back to my tent i bumped into tony and pam going to the loo!!!! apart from the rain it was a really good night we all had such a laugh.
The next morning 31/10/07 we got up a little later at 7.00am and we set of for the Mac Donnell ranges, we first went to Ormiston gorge where we walked for about 2.3km and it took about 1hr 30mins we walked up a massive hill (loads of steps) and then down through a dry river it was a nice walk and we saw black foot rock wallabys which were really cute and one had a baby too, soooo cute!! after that we went to Ellery Creek for lunch it had a lovely water hole but it was to cold to go in for a swim. after lunch we went to Stanley Chasm for some more rock climbing!!! we spent about an hour climbing over loads of rocks it was pretty hard work and we had to walk up this tree trunk! it was really scary going up it but coming back down was worse!! i really thought id fall at one point! but i managed to stay up right with a little help! we then set off for the camp site and on the way Ross saw a bearded lizard crossing the road so he pulled over and grabed it to show us, we were all a sleep on the bus a didn't know at first what he was doing, we thought we had a flat tyre. but luckly we didn't. we all got out to have a look and then Ross let it go. we then set off again for the aboriginal community, when we arrived we had a little culture talk from one of the locals and went to Wallace rock hole see some rock art and stone carvings, it was pretty cool. we then went back to camp for dinner which again was great but i happened to spot a spider i didn't bother me to much as it was only little, that was until Ross told me it was a mouse spider and was deadly!!! and while im watchin this slow moving little spider, this massive and very fast spider comes rasing for me, and anyone who knows me know how much i had spiders!!! so of course i scream and jump onto the bench with my legs up!! Ross then informs us that its a huntsman spider and is poisonus but not deadly!! well thank god for that!! we spent the rest of the night watching the spiders move round the kitchen area making sure they didn't come near us!! we went to the toilet in three's i went with christina and sidsel and when we got to the bathroom there was another massive spider on the wall, Ross said it was another huntsman but i thought it looked different! so we went the toilet about three times in the space of 10 minutes to make sure we didn't need to get up in the night!!! i lasted till 6.00am and then had to get up but it was light by then so all the spiders had gone into hiding thank god!!! we got rain again in the night but it had cleared by the morning.
The next morning 01/11/07 we got up at 7.00am again and left camp about 8.30am for Finkr gorge national park we went to palm valley it took about 30mins to go 4km as it was so bumpy we driving over a rocky river bed and i really thought the bus was going to tip over at a few points!! we hiked for 5km it took about 2 hrs we got to see some Euro kangaroos and the very rare red cabbage palm trees it was a nice walk and cool that we got to see kangaroos in the wild. after the walk we had lunch then headed back to Alice Springs it took about another 2hrs 30mins to get back. on the way back we decided we'd met for dinner, pam and tony couldn't make it but philipp, silvia, christina and sidsel did. we went to Bogangels it was a cool pub and i had mixed grill. now mixed grill is a little different over here!! it cosisted of camel kebab, Kangaroo steak, buffalow steak and crocodile!! i liked the Kangaroo and bufalow but the crocodile although tasted alot like chicken was a weird texture and i hated it but worst by far was the camel!! it was so tough and chewy i was nearly sick!! the taste wasn't that bad just the rest of it!! after dinner we all said good bye and we headed off in different directions. the others we're all flying to cairns the next day and on the same filght, where as i wasn't flighting till the saturday.
I know im not finished as ive still go a few days to fill you in on, but there not that interesting so i may leave it for a few days, as im bored of the computer now!! ive also booked a 5 day scuba diving course starting on friday which is very expensive, but you only live once!!! after that i think ill start heading down the coast and look for work!! well i hope everyone well
Take Care
