hey everyone hows it going back home? its still good weather here! i hear its been snowing back home! well to get down to it this blog, it will be a little different to normal as its been about 2-3 weeks since my last blog and ive not been very good at keeping my dairy so im not really to sure when ive done thing!! and some days ive done nothing at all so theres no point telling you about that! but i recon it'll still be quite long!! so here goes!
to fill you in on my last days in Alice springs i made it to see the flying doctors base, the reptile centre, the pioneer womens hall of fame at the old Gaol (prison) and i went to watch the sun set on Anzac Hill which was nice. the following day 3/11/07 it was rainning and everything was shut so i did not alot! just some computer stuff!! i then headed to the airport for my flight to cairns, i arrived in cairns that evening.
On the 4/11/07 i went for a walk round cairns to see what was about! i went and read my book down at the lagoon and then went back to hostel to chill out! while at the hostel i bumped into Phillip and Silvia from my Uluru tour!! so we arranged to go out for dinner which was nice i had a roast dinner which was really good!!!
the next day 5/11/07 i didn't do much spent most of the day at the lagoon with two german girls that were from my hostel. that night i met up with Philip and Silvia for dinner again we went for pizza which was so good but a little expensive!! they asked me if id like to go to cape tribulation and mossman gorge with them the following day, which i said yes to straight away!! so the nex day 6/11/07 we set off for mossman gorge national park which was really nice and we went on a hours walk through the rain forest and when we finished the walk we went for a swim in a freazing river, but it was so nice to cool off!! after that we carried on to Cape Tribulation with again was beautiful the rain forest and the sandy beaches with such blue water, it was amazing!! it was a shame we couldnt swim cause of the croc's!!! we only had a few hours there as Phillip and Silvia had to leave to get on the road to there next destination. it was a really nice day and it was fun to hang around Phillip and Siliva.
The next two days i have no idea what i did!! i prob just spent my time wondering round town, at the lagoon or at the hostle!! so nothering there to report!! in the evening of the 8/11/07 i was talking with some english guys from newcastle we went out drinking and i got so drunk!! it was a good nite, i got to bed about 2am and woke up about 3am feeling so sick!! i had to leg it to the loo and i made it just in time!!!
On the 9/11/07 i started my 5 day scuba diving course!! with the biggest hangover ever!!! and my photo for my PADI card is so bad you can tell i had a hangover as my eyes are half closed!!! our instructor was called Oli and he was from england!! there was 8 of us to start with but once we got into the pool in the afternoon 3 dropped out!! one guy just decided he didn't like it! then a girl in the group decided she didnt like it either we were all under the water on the bottom of the pool not knowing what was going it wasnt till we got ou the water to see the guy had already left and the girl was in tears!!! after that the girls boyfriend decided to leave with his girl friend!!! so then there was 5!! that day we spent all morning in the classroom and getting our medical from the doctor to say we were fit to dive. then in the afternoon we got into the pool we didnt go into the beep end!! we were only a 1 meter under the water but that was good incase something went wrong!!! but nothing went wrong we did lots of excerises like clearing our masks of water while under the water! finding our regulators ( breathing piece) if they ever got nocked out and signals. it was a good day but we had so much reading for home work i was up for hours trying to get the questions answered!!
The next day 10/11/07 we went straight into the pool in the morning for more practical lessons, and we also had another person drop out, Dean had astma and lied to the doctor!! and ended up with a really bad chest!! so now we were down to 4. we got to go into the deep end!! we had to things like fin pivets, taking our weight belts off and then putting the back on! and taking our BCD off (which is the jacket the tanks attached to) sit on it and then put it back on, i found that quite difficult, but i managed all the tasks the only one that went a little wrong was when we did our alternate air sourse ascent ( where you use your buddys spare regulator and his air) i didnt get a very good seal on his regulator as we weren't close enough and i kept swallowing water!!! so i just let go and swam to the top!! we did it again and it went fine! that was the only thing that went wrong while in the pool. in the afternoon we had more theory and our exam. it was multipul chose but had calculation of pressure groups which i found quite difficult!! so when we did the exam i did the calcuations first so they were fresh in my mind and i managed to get 100% in the exam!!
The next day 11/11/07 we got onto reef quest where we set off for the great barrier reef!! we did two dives on reef quest and my first dive i was so nervous it went ok but again i didnt seal my mouth round my regulator so i kept swallowing salt water which was quite scary when your about 7 meters under water!! but once i carmed down and sealed my regulator propally then i was fine. we didnt see much as i was constantly looking at Oli and we spent most of the dives kneeling on the sand at the bottom and doing skills that we learnt in the pool. the second dive went better than the first but again i didnt really see much. we then transfered to Ocean Quest which was the live aboard boat where we did a one more dive, and when we moved boats we lost another member of the group!! as Marco was finishing his course on reef quest and not come with the rest of us to Ocean Quest so now we were down to 3!!! me, Toke and Karl. with the more dives the better i got and more relaxed, i always came back up with more air in my tank that the others.
The next day 12/11/07 we had to be up at 6am for the morning breifing and dive!! we were so tired but after we completed this dive we had finished the open water course and we got certificated!!! im now an open water diver!! we then did a fun dive at 11.00am me , toke and Karl, it were only down for 13 mins!!!! Karl had problems with his ears so it took about 5 mins to get to the bottom, then we swam for about 2 mins we didnt even get out of sight of the boat!!! then Karl said he was low on air so we swam back for 2 mins to where we descended we did our 3 minute saftey stop at 5 meters and then surfaced!! i would say it was a fun dive id say it was more of a funny dive!!! we didnt get anywhere!!! after that we decided to do the advanced open water course, mainly cause we thought we'd get more time in the water and have a guide!!! so to complete the course in the time we had to do every dive till we got off the boat so we did the 4.00pm dive the night dive and then 6.00am dive the next morning, the 9.00am dive and the 11.00am dive. the 4.00pm dive was peak performance buoyancy where we had to do a fin pivit, hover with out moving around, we also had to swim through a hoop forwards and upside down and do forward rolls!!! we saw a white tip reef shark. the next dive was the night dive which was a bit scary and my touch wasnt so good so i didnt see to much we had to do some navigation but we got some other divers added to the group as they needed a guide so we got out of doing the navigation, thank god!! it was a really good days diving but i was so tried i went to bed really early and we had to be up early the next day.
Then next day 13/11/07 the 6.00am was the deep dive we got down to 24 meters it was a good dive and i got to see some more, i saw a lion fish and a ray it was the best dive so far. the 9.00am dive was the underwater navigation it was ok but i did to many kick cycles i did 10 and i was suppost to be doing 5!!! doh!! so Oil had to come and get me!!! i went in the right direction tho!! the box went wrong again as i went in the right directions but was to close to the coral so i had to stop before id finished as i would have crashed into the coral!!! it was an ok dive and i could tell where the boat was after we'd gone through a cave which was good but by the end of the dive i had no clue where the boat was!!!! my last dive was at 11.00am and it was our boat dive, we were suppost to go out in the diggie and the get back to the boat but the waves were to big and so we just jumped off the side of the boat higher than normal which Dean video'd for me and hopefully should be in the video section soon. that dive was mainly a fun dive we went through the cave again and i saw a turtle which was abit of a problem as i was doing a saftey stop at the time and got destracted and started to float to the surface, Oli pulled me down by my fin and gave me the angry face. i dont know how but we all passed and im now a certified advanced open water diver!!!! after the last dive we had to get back onto reef quest for our trip back to cairns. we got back at about 5.00pm and we'd arranged a night out to celebrate completing the course. we all met up at the rattle and hum, which is a bar and we had dinner and i few drinks, we then when to pj o'briens for more drinks and Oli and Peter ended up pole dancing in a competition!!! it was so funny! we then ended up in the Woolshed its like the town house in the sence that no one really wants to go cause its s*** but you always end up there anyway!! we had more drinks and did abit of dancing on the tables!! it was a good night. me and toke were the only ones left at 3.00am everyone else had disappered!!! we said good night and i walked the 20 mins back to the hostle!! i woke up the next morning with a really bad head!!
Well i think ill leave it there for now and go and get some dinner but i still have 2 weeks to fill you in on so i may add to the blog later. i hope everyone well at home. take care
Ke xx
