Valentine's Day :)
Alice didn't go to school today, so I was left to ride the bus by myself (haha). After classes I came home and we had lunch with Lola, where she informed us of the true meaning of Valentine's day. I told her that many people in the US called it "Single Awareness Day" and she didn't understand why. I told her that people who don't have a significant other and see all the lovey-dovey stuff that coincides with Valentine's Day makes them feel lonely. She then told us that Valentine's Day isn't only about your significant other, but about all the people in your life who have an impact and that you love dearly: family, friends, coworkers, etc. Your dad, who passed away last year, was a firm believer in Valentine's Day (many people here don't celebrate the holiday) and always bought her mom a flower on this day.
Later today, Alice and I had a date with Alix and Jenny at the Gran Café. Of course, we had churros and chocolate. We decided that the diet would have to go on a hold for a day, whoops. After our lovely treat and some much needed girl talk, we left the Gran Café. On our way home, we saw a florería (flower shop) and decided to pick up two roses, one for Lola and one for Susana. We also stopped at Stradivarius, our favorite clothing store, but we didn't buy anything :)
Two hours after we got home, Lola called us for dinner and we gave them their roses. They loved them and in return gave us a cookie rose. We had a wonderful dinner and I realized how lucky Alice and I are to be here with such great people.
Even though I wasn't able to spend the day with Kev or my family, I was able to skype them, and that made it all better. I miss everyone back home and I wish they could be here with me, but I'm not ready to head back home just yet :)
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!
