Next stop was Singapore. Had a few must-dos here for our 2 nights here, so we did them!
Arrived on the Thursday morning, the usual fun journey, moved from our luxury coach to public bus, on and off and on and off through passport control then an hour long journey through Singapore with no idea where to get off!!
Hostel was good, in the centre of Little India, although we didn't spend much time in the local area. The only downsides were lack of air-con in the room in the day (not ideal when you haven't slept all night and need a nap) and some strange old Chinese man in our room who also decided to have a nap in the afternoon, in his boxers, with his legs wide open. We basically got an eyeful everytime we walked into the room, pleasant!
So first on the agenda was a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel, despite the fact I'd been informed by Doug that this may involve some investment. Hotel was beautiful, did a bit of snooping, as you do, got a bit jealous of the guests there. Bet they had nice cool air-con in their room and weren't sharing it with 9 other people and a flasher! Anyway despite the cost, the Singapore Sling was yum and the experience was worth it, although I couldn't get into the swing of chucking peanut shells on the floor. Afterwards headed over to Clarke Quay which was nice albeit very touristy. Being the backpackers we are, we headed to an Irish pub ordered the cheapest beer in the pub (a bottle of corona) which came to round about 7pounds!! So a cheap night.
Day 2 on our Singapore adventure was Zoo day!! In the afternoon headed off to Singapore Zoo, did the usual, looked at animals, took pictures, standard. Then in the evening we headed over to the Night Safari. We watched a 'Creatures of the night show' oooh, walked around (it's like a zoo in the dark) and went on a tram looking at all the animals we just looked at. Was a fun day and night but essentially its a Zoo and I'd rather a real Safari any day. The biggest disappointment of the day however was a spot marked on the map, on the walk round, as 'The Bridge of Suspense'. Sounds exciting and scary I thought, turns out to be a suspension bridge, not so exciting.
All in all had a nice time, liked the cleaniness and order of the place. But...off we go to OZ!!!
