Hi everyone, Emily here!!
So after arriving in Batu Ferringhi we checked into a hostel called Shallini's (a home like home) we went for a walk along the beach, right opposite the hostel, being harrassed by people trying to sell us water sports on the way. Stopped off at a small beach cafe where we tried fresh coconut juice...very disappointed it tasted nothing like coconut! Had a stroll to the shops and a look around and then just headed back to the hostel and sat out on the balcony reading, eating, and catching up on the personal journals.
That evening we headed to the bar/restaurant, opposite the hostel, on the beach for some dinner and drinks. Although the food was yummy the service was shocking and the cheek is they actually added a service charge on the bill! We decided to move to the next bar for drinks which turned out to be the same bar! After a couple of drinks three guys from Kuala Lumpur joined us, seemed fine to start with but they wanted to meet us the next day, we just agreed and went back to the hostel and spent the night laughing about it.
The next day we got up quite late and had to run out of the hostel in order to avoid the 3 guys from last nite! We went to a cafe for breakfast and had to run out as they were there!! Managed to find another place where the owner was an old deaf guy who shouted everything at you! We speant the rest of the afternoon avoiding the blokes! We tried to do a bit of shopping but they were there so then went back to the trusty hostel balcony, once they decided to finally give up and leave we made a run for it off the balcony and into our arranged hiding places until they passed (causing some very strange looks from the couple at the other end of the balcony!!) Despite it being a saturday night we decided to have a lazy night in!
The following day we got up without the alarm again, so not an early morning, and headed to the beach. The wether wasn't great. We had lunch at the restaurant opposite the hostel again and got talking to a group of Australian army guys who were in Malaysia for a few months on work, they had some whisky left over from the night before so we helped them finish that off...and the next one...and the next...after about 5 1/2 bottles we decided to call it a night!
Waking up with a hangover a big breakfast was in need of! After breaky we did the long walk back to the shops to get a few bits and then back to the hostel to prepare for our day of watersports...but when we got back to the hostel things changed as we found out we'd been broken into, mine and Kerry's phones stolen and Becky's old sunglasses. Time to do the long walk back to the police station again then!! Turns out at least 3 rooms were broken into and we were the lucky ones, one guy had his passport and shaver stolen and another had his ipod, camera and laptop! That took up most of the day! So no watersports!
That evening we headed back to George Town to a club called Slippery Senoritas, we had a few drinks in some bars before hand and then headed there for some boogying! After meeting the 'manager' of the live band playing we somehow managed to get free drinks from them all night again!
The following day we finally managed to do our watersports, Me and Kerry did parasailing and me and Becky went on a jet ski...great fun and some funny pictures of me falling over and being dragged across the beach by the parasail!! Lazing around on the beach for the day, Kerry went back for a nap and me and Becky went and booked the bus to Singapore.
After dinner we headed to the night market, no money on us so we walked up looking at everything we wanted to buy, got some money out and then practically ran back through the market trying to get everything before it shut.
The last day we went to the National Park. We went for a walk through the park to the canopy walk (so tempting to shout "i'm a celebraty, get me outa here!" I didn't though!) We then attempted the walk to the turtle beach but it was taking a long time so we gave up and headed back in order to be back at the hostel and ready for our taxi pick up to take us to the bus terminal ready for our overnight trip to Singapore.
