The overnight journey from Cha-am to Ko Samui was long especially waiting at the pier for two hours for the boat, the wooden jetty to the boat at Chumpon was hilarious.....it had no railing of any kind, it stretched a couple of hundred metres into the sea and it had holes in it! We made our way cautiously with our heavy packs and were relieved when the boat arrived at Ko Samui and we made it to our hotel.
Starving we went out to find some food and look around, the beach was breath taking and the sand was powder soft, really beautiful here.In the afternoon we headed up to the roof top Jacuzzi, we had it to ourselves and enjoyed relaxing until the sun went down.At night we went for a look around and found that Chaweng is much like Spain in the sense that you are approached constantly by PR folk, there are loads of fast food chains and little in the way of thai food or people for that matter. We were a bit disheartened after our thai experience in Cha-am but we managed to spot a food place with thai people sitting on plastic chairs which are signs of good food in Thailand. We were right the food was amazing, all freshly made to order and for next to nothing. We had watched a man making the traditional dish of banana pancakes and decided to try some but as his stall was packed up we tried another.... his were much less appealing to the eye, he slapped a bit of batter down then started smoothing it out with his hands when it was overstretched he pushed it back together with his fingers....Martin and I were not impressed but after all we have tried we had to give them a go, we loved them and Martin named them 'banana handcakes'. We headed back to the room and called home, I had a three way chat with my mum and Ian. I love love love Skype!
We were up early for breakfast and our day at the beach, it was so picturesque and we enjoyed relaxing on our sunbeds and taking photos of the stunning views. In the afternoon we returned to the thai restaurant for more delicious food and I had a coconut too.We got dressed up and headed out, we had a few cocktails before stopping at a small bar for a few beers. A large group came in and we got talking to a boy who told us they were doing a course to teach English and they were from all over the UK.Ross was the only Scot and he plonked himself down once he knew we were from Glasgow, Martin and him discussed everything from football to mortons rolls while the English folk looked on a bit confused.I chatted with a lovely girl from Devon called Alice and got to know some of the others. They asked us to join them at a club which was brilliant, really crowded with people dancing everywhere and hardly any space to move.Ross was up on the 'stage' it was actually a bit of scaffolding that you had to climb through to get up on but it was worth it.Looking down on everyone partying was great while we jumped about above them, the worse for wear we headed back.Everything was shut and the road was pretty dark, every so often a guy on a motorbike would ask if we wanted a taxi, safer us walking than getting onto the back of that I thought!
