We were a bit hungover after our night out in Samui so the next day we chilled out and arranged the onward transport to Phuket. We travelled during the day and got taken early to a boat then waited a while for a bus....what a bus it was! The air con kept cutting out and the driver had to keep stopping the bus and getting off to fix it, thank goodness he did! The bus had no other tourists, just thai folk who seemed relaxed as the bus broke heavily round most bends! We had organised a transfer to a hotel, luckily someone knew what was happening the bus pulled in at the side of the road and a man jumped on the bus with a sign saying 'mini van' and he pointed at stickers we'd been given. When arrived at Patong in Phuket not having booked anything we headed to a guesthouse rated number one on trip advisor, as its low season we managed to negotiate the already cheap room down a bit, we are becoming expert hagglers. The guesthouse had a bar named after the guy who owned the place, Mally. He was from Manchester and a massive Man Utd fan, he had strips and pictures everywhere - Martin did his best to block it out!We had a drink in Mally's before heading out, Phuket is very touristy even more so than Koh Samui. It is definitely rainy season here and as the rain bounced off the street we found shelter at the 'Stumble in Bar' we met two aussie boys who Martin played pool with, it turned out they knew the owner and Martin beat him too! They didn't look too impressed especially the guy who owned the place who was bit worse for wear! We left to find some food, fast food chains everywhere so we embraced it and went for a pizza. The next day we went for a wander still not great weather and we realise we have been so lucky until now despite it being monsoon season. We went on our mission from Kimby and David to find a girl called Wan they met about two years ago, who worked at a bar - nice one guys!At breakfast we asked two Scottish guys to point us in the right direction, they did and we found the bar Wan worked at but she wasn't there anymore and we were redirected. We actually managed to find the other row of bars and some people recognised her but she wasn't there, boo! Sorry guys, we tried our best!We headed down to the beach for a look and it was quite eerie seeing the tsunami warnings signs and thinking about what had happened, Mally told us the night before that he had slept through it and he showed us his own pictures of the aftermath so it had more of an impact on us.To be honest we weren't impressed with Phuket beach, I'll not tell you what we found but it was covered in litter let's put it that way.Later we had dinner at a thai and Vietnamese place that Mally recommended, addicted to curry?.....quite possibly! As we had to be up early the next day we went to the cinema, I'd move to Thailand for the caramel popcorn alone! Standing before the film started for the national anthem was different too but the best part was the big reclining sofa that cost less than half normal cinema seats at home. Up early for our trip to Ko Phi Phi Island and the boat stopped at a nice spot for snorkelling, we decided against it and chatted to a nice Scottish couple instead.Suddenly it started pouring with rain and when the boat set off we were told that the part of the trip to Maya Bay where they filmed 'The Beach' was cancelled due to the weather, we were disappointed but it gave us more time to look around Ko Phi Phi which was beautiful and as we walked on the beach the rain stopped and it brightened up, happy days! Back on dry land we headed out to Bangla Road, a bit like Bangkok lots of girlie bars but it seems more open here, lots of tourists sitting at them and playing games with the staff. We played connect 4 with a girl behind a bar, she challenged Martin to buy her a drink if she won and of course she did! Martino was not happy! The girl dancing round a pole on the bar hopped off and introduced herself, she asked me to dance which I did but on the ground not round a pole as I'd had a few changs (thai beer that doesn't put an alcohol content on it.....it gets you fleeing) and wouldn't have stayed on the bar long that's for sure!Quiet last day today, packing again and out for a few cocktails and dinner at an Irish bar before a visit to the Hard Rock Cafe.Phuket was just like being in Spain, we had fun but not really felt like we're in Thailand and there are aussies everywhere......... suppose we'll need to get used to that!
