Next morning we were still trying to finalise our onward travel plans, the journey ahead was daunting with the first bus journey being two hours long with no air con, fortunately I noticed a sign for a mini van to hua hin, only thirty minutes from Cha-am so we asked them to drop us off. When we arrived we were confronted by the usual swarm of taxi drivers, we agreed a price before being shown two motorbikes, laden with our packs we decided against it and asked for a car, well...it had four wheels but it was more like a pickup truck. We arrived at the Golden Guesthouse before quickly heading out for a walk up the beach and some food.Cha-am is a thai tourist resort and generally quiet mid week, we quickly realised the seafood festival we had read about was in full swing and there were food stands and hawker stalls everywhere.Cha-am was so good picking out the best bits in those two days is difficult. The first night we found that lots of people spoke to us, we had a good chat with the mother of a lovely family who had a young baby she was curious about us and where we were from.I was also invited to dance with really lively girl who I'd been watching up dancing with her friends. We also met a magician who was dressed as a cowboy, he showed us lots of tricks and used Martin as part of his act, he loved and said he was the 'David Blaine of Thailand'. The food at the festival was so varied, loads of seafood obviously and lots of sweet things, I tried a cake ball that was on a stick, it had lots of sweet layers then a bit of sausage inside, very strange! I also had sweet corn that was mixed with butter and sugar, all the kids were loving it! Martin spotted a stall with deep fried cockroaches and other bugs but we decided to give them a miss! On our first night we stayed at the festival until late, the atmosphere was electric and with so many different bands and so few tourists apart from thai ones it was brilliant. The next day we spent some time at the beach, it was very quiet apart from the odd jet ski or horse riding up and down. The water was so warm, it was like getting into a warm bath we really enjoyed our first chance to get to the beach. In the evening we went back to the festival, we spotted a young couple out in their pyjamas and slippers, i wish i knew why!The festival was busier on the second night, the bands played rock music and the crowd got drunker, we stayed until the end then headed to a bar where we met some scousers and played pool.A young thai girl on the look out for a foreign husband was giving Martin the chat but she was mortified when she realised we were together. The bar maid was also flirting with Martin, so it was a good night for him! When we returned to the guesthouse, Patrick the owner offered to show us some magic tricks as he'd been a magician years ago.Patrick entertained us then he and Martin popped round to the 7 eleven for more beers, it was late when we made it to bed but it was a good laugh. We had a hangover breakfast before heading to the beach, some thai tourists asked for photos with me, they were so shy about it they were lovely. As we were leaving late to travel overnight we had already checked out and had cold showers at the beach before going to a restaurant that an English guy recommended, he'd lived in Cha-am for five years and he was right the food was good. We hated leaving Cha-am, it is the real Thailand.
