Began my tour on the Kiwi Experience on a Wednesday and met loads of people, there were 18 of us, more females than males, also one annoying Irish girl who I later found out has just arrived and is her first few days so no wonder she is a little hyperactive! Still a Muppet though.
My driver was Ma who was brilliant got to know him over the few days I was with him and he knew so much was amazing , he even went through his family tree which was just fascinating, but it was the amount of detail he went into that impressed me and all off the top of his head.
So the first day we travelled to Cathedral cove, we stopped in Thames where I picked up a waterproof jacket for $20 from warehouse, £10 and a few supplies from the supermarket. Then headed to Cathedral cove and hike for half an hour and reached this really beautiful rock formation and it looked like an archway, reminded me of the great ocean road with all the rock formations.
Just driving here was amazing the scenery is so green and lush.
Later we drove into where we stayed for the night and that was called Hot water beach, we stayed on a campsite with cabin for $30 which were really nice, but felt like being crammed into a small space, with 7 of us in a dorm style room.
That evening around 9pm we walked to the beach as there is a place once there is low tide where you dig and can feel the hot water on the beach hence the name.
Our first challenge was to cross a busy following stream, one guy went and then I started to head out and this Irish girl came splashing over, so I let her go , only for her to nearly fall in and she lost her flip flops, she tried to grab me but I moved, she managed to get wet.
So once on the other side, others came over, we walked to where the rocks were and waited for nearly two hours but the tide was not getting an lower, so after trying to dig some smaller holes to see if there was hot water, but no luck, but you could feel the water was warmer on our feet from the sea.
The most amazing thing about this night was the sky it was lit up like a Christmas tree there were millions and millions of stars, I have never seen so many in all my life.
Nothing like you would see in the Northern Hemisphere back home this was absolutely spectacular.
Didn't think that the skies in Northern and southern hemispheres were so different but I can't explain to you just how beautiful the sky was, tried taking pictures but came out really poor. Also saw a shooting star but there were quite a few flying around but I managed to only capture one.
