Spent most of Thursday 24th Nov on the train, sat with Chinese people, trying to talk to me, but having no idea what they were saying. I got into Kunming station around 11pm. was a little apprehensive but I had the address and just needed to find a taxi.
I walked out of the station and found a taxi that dropped me off right outside the hostel for 15 Yuan (£1.50). I checked in and then spoke to Sam on msn for a bit and found bus times to Shangri-La and a hostel. Eventually went to bed. The bed was comfortable apart from the outside traffic, but was too tired to care about the noise.
I woke up around 9am and laid in bed till about 10am. Then got up and ready and say with my netbook. An American lady, named Michelle came and sat with me and we talked for a while. Then I headed out to get some money out so I could book the bus to Shangri-La. Walked around the town for a while. Found loads of markets, again this city is loaded with shops. Not a bad hostel especially for £3 a night.
I came back and booked my ticket to leave the next evening to Shangri-La, where I will be meeting Debbie.
On Saturday I checked out and headed for the shops as I need a coat as I heard that Shangri-la is in the mountain region so needed something warmer. Found a coat and later headed to the bus station.
Found my bus which was a strange concept, basically a coach was converted into sleeper beds around 34 of them and they are pretty small.
I settled in to my 12 hour journey the first half was ok but the second half was a little bumpy. Also stopped and went to the toilet was expecting open squatters though, basically squatting toilets in separate cubicles but without doors, so as you can imagine did my business and got out fast.
