The day started with a tiny beam of light, sneaking into our room. When we decided to acknowledge the day, we realized it was only 8am although it felt like Noon. We're in the same time zone here as at home, but because Peru doesn't observe daylight savings time, we're an hour different - so the sun sets around 6pm and rises at some terribly early hour that I'd prefer not to be aware.
The hostal that we are staying at is called La Piccola Locanda. It is a great little spot located up the hill from the main plaza. It is a few extra dollars to stay here but they do a great job of providing a good little breakfast and for keeping the place clean. Finally, it is a good spot because some of the funds go to help orphaned children in the city.
After breakfast we climbed further up the hill to find a great view of the city and an alpaca and a lama grazing in the sun.
The majority of the day was spent bopping around the shops along the main streets of the city. We managed to find the local market which was filled with everything from colourful clothes to animal parts we would not be interested in eating.
We dodged the only rain of the day by stopping in a balcony restaurant were we enjoyed more guacomole (Beth was successul in her daily goal!) and I found a good tasting local dark beer (to add to my goal of drinking a new beer in every country).
Our great mission of the day was to climb up to the top of the hill behind our hostal to get the view from the Jesus statue that overlooks the city. After several breaks to check our heart rates, we completed the pilgrimage to the top just as the sun was covering the valley below. Also from this vantage point we were able to view the ruins of Saqsaywaman, an important religous Inca site.
No blog entry would be complete without a soccer reference. While walking around the square at night there was an old soccer game on TV (likely from the 90's). When we stopped to see who was playing, the guy next to me look at the screen and then looked at me and said "Valderrama!". It was awesome.

K-Mac I love that taking pictures with baby goats is a thing?! Also just want to say that I fully support all beer and guacamole-based goals. Awesome.
KrisMac Looks like the lady on the left is hanging on to you so you can't run off with her goat! She must know about your Mac ancestors, Beth!
