After another somewhat terrifying taxi ride back to the airport this morning, we hopped on our Taca flight bound for Cuzco. At just over an hour, that is the kind of flight I can enjoy! We did have some crazy turbulence on our descent into Cuzco, and the landing was nuts - we made a pretty sharp turn around some mountains to find the runway. But the landing itself was very smooth!
We hopped in a taxi to take us to the main part of the city (Plaza des Armas). This ride was much more chill than in Lima! We were dropped off in the Plaza and walked up a steep road and side street to find our hostel. Being at this altitude takes a couple days to get used to so the uphill climb was tough, and needed a few breaks. And Mark to help carry my heavy pack most of the way.
Our hostel is amazing and has a great view of the city and overlooks the Plaza des Armas. In the picture above, Mark is sitting on the rooftop terrace at lunch looking out over the Plaza. Such beautiful mountains!
For dinner, we met up with Burrill and Courtney - who are coincidentally staying at the hostel right next door to us! We ate at an amazing vegetarian restaurant and had more tequenos with excellent guacamole, soup, and veggie sandwiches with tons of fresh avacado. My new goal is going to be to eat avacado in some form every day we're in Peru! So tasty!
Tomorrow we'll explore the city a bit more and figure out our plan for Machu Picchu.
