We parted Belgium with heavy hearts and even heavier thighs, but thoroughly rested and satisfied just the same. We jumped on a train to Rotterdam. We were bored and took photos (see the album). We arrived in Rotterdam thoroughly confused, because we knew absolutely no dutch at all. Whatsoever. Luckily enough we found a tram conductor who spoke engligh and told us when to get off the tram. He was a really really kind man. I was very greatful. We found our hostel, the ROOM in Rotterdam and dumped our luggage before setting off for a bit of an explore. And I have to tell you, the Netherlands are very very cool and amazing. It's not like being anywhere else in the world, the buildings here are so quirky, the people are odd but charming and its CHEAP which I was really pumped about. We found a lovely cafe that we warmed up in, and went for a stroll around the main town, sort of the bourke st mall of Rotterdam. The cheapy stores! Never had I had so much fun. Everything was under £2 and we had a bit of a party. I really wanted to buy a fly swat that was in the shape of a heart, with a hole in the middle that read "give the fly a chance" but I dont think it would have fit in my suitcase (sob!). We wandered past the river, jumped in some giant clogs before heading back to the hostel because we were tired from all of the walking.
The hostel was pretty rad. It was no Green Man, but we will had a lot of fun. They had a dog there called Lexi who we made friends with. We cooked up some pasta for dinner (just for a change) and then got into the happy hour(s) with £1.50 wine which is a bargain no matter what country you are in. We went for a late night walk, and hung out with an Aussie guy who was travelling with his woman, but she was ill. Sat outside chatting till quite late, or until my hands froze off. Hit the sack.
