Again, this is out of date as per usual however, this is was the last part of New Zealand, the South Island. Starting off from our slight nightmare with transport in Wellington, we had a quick ferry through to the South Island, thorough the Marlbourough Sounds which was just gorgeous especially in the morning when we travelled through, very peaceful indeed. From there the first stop was Kaiteriteri, a stunning beach town, adorned with amazing houses and beautiful boats, can I live there please?!! We ended up staying 3 days there as coaches out of there with Kiwi were pretty jam packed and us 6 refused to be seperated!! Also celebrated the lovely Lewis' birthday there, a standard evening in Lewis' world of drinking far far too much beer, needless to say a quiet day on the beach followed that night... A few random stops later(weird Westport, like living in someones strange house for the night!) then Poo pub, a strange mix of horrrendous showers and a mattress that resembled a piece of flimsy cardboard in what was essentially a tin shack, together with a mad night dressed up as a cat(?!!) in a real traditional kiwi pub, good night but glad to be going to a proper bed after so from there on to Franz Josef.
Franz is a small alpine type village/town that is sitauted between 2 glaciers Fox and Franz Josef. Ther were a few options with regards to walking the glacier but after the almighty amount of money i'd spent in the North Island we thought better of it and walked to the base of the glacier, it was so breathtaking, you will never see such a shade of white it really was beautiful(my exercise done for the week/month). From the chilly glaciers of Franz to the "trendy" town(as heath would say) of Wanaka, a touristy town with an amazing lake but a lovely touristy town, no tack!! We spent a few days in Wanaka as we didn't get there until later as we couldn't all get on the bus from Franz(standard occurence with Kiwi experience we found!) so a few days sunning then on to the pies de resistance- QUEENSTOWN!!!
What an amazing place, as soon as we arrived i decided i could live there, the scenery, the beach, just everything was perfect, not to mention we had an awesome hostel with a sauna-what hostel has that hah! 4 of probably the best days of my life spent with so many people we met who all happened to coincidentally be in Queenstown at once, it was the best possible end to such an incredible place.
Got a loooooooong bus to Christchurch, ended up sharing a room with an older hairdresser bloke we had met in Queenstown as there were no more rooms it really was surreal, basically in someones house, but hostels in Christchurch are very hard to come by after the devastation the earthquake left but off to the airport i went early that morning, absolutly stoked for Australia and the next part of my adventure!
Goodbye New Zealand, thank you for the memories, you were magic and Australia has a lot to live up to!
