Today, Sunday, was my favorite day thus far of the trip!! We left early from the Royal Mile to take a tour of the highlands. Today was our free day to explore. In the morning a small group of us tried to visit the Holyrood House, the palace, but we were not allowed in because staff were preparing for Prince Charles visit the next few days. Wednesday, the 28th, was the first day of our trip. We boarded a small shuttle bus and drove to JFK airport. We got to the airport alittle before 6pm. Even though our flight was supposed to leave at 9:40pm the flight was delayed over three hours because of traffic at JFK. Tonight we toured Mary Kings Close. A close is a street or alley between buildings. The many closes in Edinburgh were built on top of in the last two hundred years. There are many ghost stories and tragedies associated with this close. Countless people died in there of the pneumonic and bubonic plagues including a young girl named Annie. Today we visited Stevenson College of Edinburgh, our host school, where we listened to a lectures on Scottish history and culture. Afterward, we went to New Lanark where there is a very historic cotton mill.
