We leave our hotel (J Mansion) early doors, and get ready to say goodbye to Thailand. I declare that this is definitely not the last time I will be in Thailand, and I genuinely can't wait to plan a trip back here. Little did I know that when we were heading next would be a defining moment in the trip for me.
Our trusty minivan arrives, ready to take us to the pier to catch the ferry to Langkawi, Malaysia. I was nervous about doing the first border crossing, and had no idea what to expect really. Tommy was great, and had our tickets ready and explained how things would work. We arrive at the ferry terminal, and I try and treat my unhappy tummy to some western food (crisps and biscuits) for lunch, rather than more curry and shrimp! The heavens open, and even heavier rain appears and hangs around for a good hour. We get soaked boarding the ferry, and get setted into our window-less (sigh) seats, for what we thought was a 2.5hour ferry journey. Well the driver must have been in a hurry to get home, as we got there in 50 minutes. Excellent.
Upon arriving at the other side, we queue up for passport control. I immeditely liked Malaysia as you are supposed to fill in a entry slip to get attached to your passport, but they hadn;t printed any so they said not to worry (relaxed or what!) I also had a nice chat with the man at my passport control desk (a million times friendlier than Heathrow!)_ and stepped freely into Malaysia. After a very lazy search through my handbag (completely ignoring my massive backpack) I was in Malaysia (for a total of 90 days if I wanted!)
We arrive to our Bungalow (yes bungalow) in Langkawi quite late in the day, but early enough to drop our bags and head across to the beach. Our Muslim-run hotel didn't serve alcohol, but we were allowed to buy drinks from a shop and drink them in the "beer garden" so cocktail in hand I sat with the other, or the beach, content, watching the sun set (epically, of course.)
