After only hoping to "siesta" for an hour-Ginny I just woke up from our little 3.5 hour nap. Little bit longer than we expected. I dont know if all of the fresh air and walking I am getting is making me sleepy, but we sure take advantage of these little naps during the day. Another huge factor is that our windows have these steel shields that go over them, turning out room into a completely dark dungeon..very bomb shelter style. It gets the job done, but if we didnt set alarms I am sure we would have slept well into the morning. Looks like I will be up for awhile tonight!
Yesterday after classes, we ate lunch and spent much of the afternoon working on a type of budget for while we are here as well as book tickets to Belgium! Looks like we are heading to Brussels next weekend after class on thursday. This is our first little trip using RyanAir as well as taking the bus and metro alone in Madrid..things could get interesting. But nonetheless I am very excited. As we are learning, in order to get those super cheap flights, we need to book at least a few weeks in advance, so now we are in the process of picking weekends to take other trips.
After feeling somewhat organized, I took a nap (of course) and then woke up in time to go into the city to meet the group for some coffee. We went to this bar/cafe downtown and enjoyed some "tapas" and drinks. I got coca lacoa caliente..basically hot chocolate.. and a little sandwhich. Total: 3 Euros. Not too shabby. The cafe we went to was really cool and I think would be a fun place at night as well. They have tables all over the second floor that have taps of beer and kegs underneath them. When you use your tap to fill up your beer-it tracks the price on a little screen by the tap. Pretty inventive. Since dinner is a pretty casual meal, many people go to cafes for a beer and some tapas and call it good. Afterwards Ginny got some icecream and we walked back home.
Classes were cancelled today for some university holiday. No complaints on my part. So this morning we got together and went to the market. It was a pretty cold rainy day but we still went. The market was on the other side of town, and it about 2 street lanes wide and 2 blocks long. A little smaller than the size of the "market" we have during Sturgis Falls. I found a cute green zip-up hoodie that I bartered down to 5 Euros. They have everything from every fruit you could think of, every nasty looking meat you could think of, shoes, pants, underwear, shirts, baby clothes, house supplies, makeup-basically everything. They have it every other wednesday so I am sure we will be back in the future to get some more deals.
I am not sure if Ginny and I will go into town tonight because it is already getting late and we still have some homework to do. Nothing big, but we both would like to get a little ahead. Tomorrow I only have 2 classes so it should be a pretty easy day. After tomorrow we are done till monday! I think I am really going to like this whole no classes on friday thing.
Looking forward to the weekend!
