After leaving Taupo we continued onto a place called River valley, where we stayed in a lodge in a secluded location on the Rangitikei river. The backdrop to this place was fantastic, however the white water rafting had been turned into more of a "ducky" activity according to the lodge due to low water levels from the absolute scorching heat that's hit the country this summer. I think the locals are fearing a drought up north if rain doesn't hit soon! Despite the beauty of this location it has been slightly tainted by the fact that I couldn't do rafting and subsequently got mauled by a pack of unrelenting sand flies on feet that had already suffered 3rd degree sunburn! Oh well!! Onto Wellington (and what a cool little city this is) I must say this place would tempt me away from Irish shores much more easily than Auckland would, there's just something about the vibe here I could see myself staying longer....however only 2 nights and I'm off to Kaiteriteri tomorrow for Abel Tasman national park.
