On the first night in Ho Chi Minh city we bumped into some guys and girls that we met in Nha Trang, such a small world when everyone is travelling! Was good to see them all again.
We visited the War Remnants Museum, something which was incredibly interesting but also very moving and soemo f it quite hard to take. I was first overwhelmed at the entrance, stood next to these huge US war crafts, massive planes and helicopters, orginas from the war. Inside we read all about the American aggressive attack on Vietnam and saw evidence of al the protest against it while it was going on. Probably the first time i've been so interested in history (hope you're proud Dad!). On the following floors there was an incredible amount of photos from the war of people moments before they were killed, so sad to see the sadness and fear in their faces. Another floor contained so many images of people who were and still are affected by Agent Orange- the chemical the US used when bombing all of Vietnam and parts of Cambodia. Its heart breaking to see the results and lasting damage that it has caused. They even had 2 baby foetuses preserved that are clearly deformed. There was also lots of facts and figures too, such as this war cost the US more than tripple what WWII cost them.
The sadest part is the agent orange which contains Dioxin (most harmful chemical known to man), the effects are 3 generations now and we saw many people on the streets who are suffering from the affects today.
On a lighter note the next day we thought it was a good idea to go to the waterpark... compeltely forgettingi t was a Sunday we were shocked to turn up to an insane amount of screaming Vietnamese kids running around like hyper crazy people, literally couldnt see the water there were so many crammed in! after walking around the perimeter and not seeing a single other white person we soon left and got our hungover selved back to the city. We have now learnt never to go somewhere like that at the weekend! haha.
Lots of Love xxx
