Decided to head in to Buenos Aires ´microcentro´ today via the subte. We found the tube station not very far down the road from the hostel and managed to buy ourselves two tickets to Bolivar for 75c each! The train was packed and there were kids trying to sell us things, but it was relatively clean and fast.
When we got into the town centre we wandered around the square for a bit and managed to get conned by an old lady selling ribons for a childrens charity, we were soon to learn that you just have to shake your head and keep walking because they are everywhere! We looked at Casa Rosada, the famous pink Presedential Palace where the balcony of Evita can be seen. We walked down Ave Florida, a pedestrianised street packed with shops, salespeople, and not forgetting the broken side walks and the men sat on the street offering a shoe shining service. From Ave Florida we went to look at the ´Obelisco´ but it was undergoing reconstruction so we couldn´t see it. We had a look in ´Catedral Metropolitana´ which contains the tomb of liberator Jose de San Martin before we headed south of the city to ´San Telmo´.
We stopped for lunch at a restaurant in San Telmo called ´Desnivel´, and managed to get two meals and half a bottle of wine for about 4 quid! After lunch we got back on the tube and headed back to the hostel. Both fell asleep ridicuously early, i´m blaming jet lag! x x
