My trip to Nicaragua this summer will be my first overseas volunteering experience. The organization I am travelling with, VIDA (Volunteers for Intercultural and Definitive Adventures), is a non-profit organization that helps provide free basic medical assistance to communities in Central America. We volunteers will be working side by side with a professional medical team in health clinics and participate in homestays and cultural activities.

I am really excited and look foward to this unique opportunity to experience health care delivery in the context of the Central American culture. Through this service experience, I hope to gain better insights on how to bring the skills I learned as an engineering student in the development and improvement of health care systems locally, and globally.
