Kathy's Volunteer Experience ~ Nicaragua 2010
Day 5 and 6 ~
After almost four days of training and work at the clinic, we had two days off to explore the town of Masaya and San Juan del Sur.
In Masaya, we visited The Mercardo de Artesanias, a local market in Masaya where unique Nicaraguan handicraft such as hand woven hammocks, embroidered blouses, wood carvings could be found.
In the afternoon, we arrived at San Juan del Sur. San Juan del Sur is a coastal town on the Pacific Ocean, in south-west Nicaragua. It was once a sleepy fishing village but now a famous surfing town in Nicaragua.
We attended a surfing class taught by local instructors. I had never surfed before and was amazed at how much I enjoyed the experience. I can't wait to go surfing when I have the chance again!
