Kasey Rae's Adventure Down Under 2006
The houses we moved into are absolutely gorgeous. Mine is 63 Alcorn and the other is 9. They're about a five minute walk from eachother. My house is modern looking with cool shaped windows and very open. THe kitchen is a great size with full size fridge, a washing machine, but a broken oven. THe stove works though adn we have a microwave.
We have a great big porch in teh back with a table and bench attached. Already just reading and writing out there I"ve been accompanied by a MagPie, a Kookaburra, and a lizard. The other house had a wild turkey. I'm going to buy a pair of binoculars and learn to bird watch. We have a field guide so I've been learning to ID birds.
In teh backyard there's an overgrown trail that takes you to the beach. Such a nice beach. There are lots of rip currents so I'm waiting for a calm day to swim. I'm going to a thrift store today to price paddleboards. They'll buy them back for half the price, might be worth the investment we'll see.
I'm living with Carlee, Nick, Max, Mike, and Dierdre. I'm rooming with Carlee. Dierdre is the only one with a single, but that's fine with me. Really i'm only in tehre to change and to sleep.
Byron is very vegetarian friendly. Every place has veggie options and there are tons of falafel kabab places around. There's a lounge cinema called the Piggery that will give you the movie and a vegetarian restaurant meal for $10. We haven't gone yet, but I'm waiting to go.
Last sunday we went to the market that they have once a month. It's great. It's full of hippie shops, great food, street performers, jewelry, arts and crafts, didgeridoos, adn the like. Fantastic!
We went again to Cheeky Monkeys two nights ago. So much fun. I danced with a few really hot aussies, one in particular was Cale. He's from Victoria and wants to be surf photographer.
Our first night in the house Nick and I cooked a big meal for everyone. I made pasta and sauce and he made salad, and cheese and crackers. We had som nice wine adn had a good house warming party. The canned tomatoes tasted a little weak, but I'll try again next time with a different brand.
Class is great. I find it so much easier to concentrate wehn you're on a coach or on teh floor than in a classroom. Already we've learned so much about the formation of Australia, people and society, and geography. It's only been one week. I'm loving it!
On MOnday we're starting our garden. First we're doing banana circles. Not sure what that is yet, but i"ll find out. Can't wait to get my hands in some cow manure. lol
I miss you all. Sorry about giving teh wrong link. I'll re-email it to everyone.
Love you all,
Kasey
Ps. No ducks yet Tommy. I looked in the guide book though and there should be tons by Mount Warning, where I'm going next week.
