Happiness Is The Road
We woke to a beautiful sunrise. I was going to have a shower this morning as I always do when we stay on camp sites with shower facilities. I couldn't have one here though as there were no doors on the two shower cubicles! The facilities were in a portacabin and had two toilets thankfully with doors, two basins and at the far end two shower trays facing each other with about 60cm between them. There was no door and therefore absolutely no privacy! Who in the hell thought that this was a good idea!!? This place wasn't, or at least I don't think it was, some kind of naturist place. I didn't want to be subjected to some random guys putrid bits, especially just before my breakfast! I certainly wasn't going to wap my bits out in case someone came in for a ****/wee/wash etc. I'm not prudish but this odd set up was just plain wrong. Strangely though in the ladies portacabin there were two showers both with doors on. Jay could have had a shower but she didn't as she was out in protest with me! We had brekky and then escaped from this oddity of a place before we were asked to take part in a naked volleyball contest! I wasn't getting my zebra rocks out for anyone!! We trundled off back down the dirt road and to the main highway. From here it wasn't far to the border and we soon got to the quarantine checkpoint. We waited our turn in the queue. The guy was very friendly and asked us if we had any fruit/veggies/honey/plants etc to which we replied 'no'. We had eaten the last of our stuff for brekky and it was now tucked safely away in our bellies. We then left the checkpoint into Western Australia and into Western Standard Time. We were now one and a half hours behind the Northern Territory and 2 hours behind the Eastern states as we had gained half an hour when we crossed from Queensland into the Northern Territory. We had extra time to play with today and we therefore arrived in WA earlier than leaving the zebra rock place. It felt great to be back in WA. The weather was great with a deep blue sky. Our first stop was Lake Argyle which was a 40 kilometre detour off the main highway. It is Australia's largest artificial lake by volume with a surface area of 1,000 square kilometres and a water volume 21 times that of Sydney Harbour. It was an amazing sight and even though it was man made it was extremely scenic and beautiful. After this we drove back to the main highway. Just outside Kununurra we stopped at Mirima National Park which was just on the edge of the town. It is also known as Hidden Valley National Park. The park is dominated by some unusual sandstone formations. We went on a walk through the sandstone and up to a lookout admiring the amazing colours and shapes of the rock. After this and a spot of lunch we headed into Kununurra itself, a bit of a rough and ready place, to do some shopping at Coles. After this we hit the highway again in the direction of Wyndham. There were loads of boab trees along the road again. We had decided to go to the Parry Creek Farm Camping Area. We took a turn off down a dirt road before Wyndham to get there. It was about 10 kilometres of dirt road but not as bad as yesterday as there wasn't as much corrugation. The caravan park that we found at the end of the dirt road was wonderful. It was right out in the middle of the bush but they had a swimming pool and a restaurant/bar. The camping area wasn't that busy and we got a great spot. We went and had a refreshing dip in the pool and chilled out till bedtime.
