Today is our last day in Shanghai. We leave early tomorrow morning on a 22 hour train trip to Guilin. It's a bit sad, because it signals that our journey is coming to an end. We're taking FULL advantage of the shopping here though.
Amy and I have already agreed that we will come back to Shanghai for sure. She originally wasn't so keen on coming and I only wanted to so I could have gone to the major cities in China. Boy are we glad we did! It has a feel of a cross between Vancouver, New York, and dirty China. I could totally live here.
Yesterday was abig shopping day. Because presents were involved, I can't divulge all the details. But Amy and I each made one really big purchase. Oil paintings! They're very large and beautiful, and cheap. Probably cost around 35-40 dollars canadian (after we talked them way way down from wanting 3000 RMB to start).
Today we're going in search of a suitcase. We want to send an extra one back with me and we think now's the time to buy one since we can move most of my stuff (backpack included) into it and just roll it along. Wish us luck.
After Shanghai is done (sad!) we're going to the beautiful countryside and the rice terraces and such. Shouldn't be half as taxing as the wall or the mountain to explore, thank god, but it's mosquito country so we'll be covered in bug spray. The few bites I've already obtained are insanely itchy and uncomfortable.
Missing you all!
