Ni Hao!
My mandarin is slowly improving. I can greet people, say thank you and goodbye, apologize, and explain that I don't speak mandarin. It's about all I need. Amy and I find that pointing and looking confused usually results in someone who speaks English popping up as if from nowhere.
Last night we took the train to Huangshan shi, also known as Tunxi town. It's a cute place but the only real attraction is the mountain two hours drive away. We're climbing the mountain tomorrow, sleeping at the top, then heading down the next day and catching a night train to Shanghai. I'm so excited! It's going to be hard work! It' around 6 hours to get to our hostel and then we hope to spend another 2 or 3 wandering around the top.
The next morning we'll be getting up around 5 am to watch the sun rise and then doing more hiking at the top. We'll probably take the cable cars down and explore the base some more before heading back to town to collect our bags and eat.
The train ride here was... painful. The train left around 10:40pm and arrived at 5 am. The trouble was, we decided to book the hard seats rather than a sleeper. 7 hours, not so bad right? Oh no. Hell no. The seats weren't too bad but they don't tell you the name of the stop the train is at which had us really worried around 4:30 in the morning. Fortunately, the guy next to us looked at my ticket and then showed me that his stop was the same. Yay!
When we disembarked, we decided to book train tickets to Shanghai for the 25th. Thank god we got soft sleeper! I'm going to be sooo comfortable for those 13 hours (it's another night train). We're hoping for soft sleeper when we go from Shanghai to Guilin also because that's a 24 hour train. We'll be exhausted otherwise!
Thank god our hostel had a room ready for us at 8am. We crashed for a few hours, then went exploring. Not much to see here, truthfully. So no new pictures. But the morbid ones from Nanjing will do for now. Let me just say, wait till I show you guys video of the bodies! Sooo eerie!
Probably won't get an update from me till I'm down from the mountain with TONS of pictures to share.
Bye bye! I miss you all!
PS: Laila, I sent postcards to the girls today but they'll probably show up after I'm back.
