We had breakfast at the hotel and then took a tram to the Gellert bath complex -- a 1930s era spa -- across the river in Buda. It's a lovely hotel that overlooks the river and has a huge bath complex -- lockers, massage rooms, 3 thermal pools, a steam room, sauna, and outdoor wave pool. Too cold for the cool pools, but we spent lots of time in the thermal ones -- each a different temperature. We had coffee on the
Hotel terrace and then took the tram back to our area and walked back to the hotel.
There was a "picnic" festival in the little square behind the hotel. They even put down temporary sod on top of the small parking lot. There were various booths of crafts and some food and lots of activities for kids, including a puppet show. We bought some clove vinegar and some gifts and had lunch on the hotel terrace.
Then we walked across the "chain" bridge, the first bridge built across the river -- not until 1840. We sat in a park on the other side, but decided not to back up to the castle area again and walked back across the bridge. We stopped in the Four Seasons hotel, which is in a "secessionist" architectural style (early 20th century) -- amazing interior. Then we walked up a high end shopping street and stopped for coffee at a cafe, and then back to hotel.
When we got back, we realized the festival had moved into tango dancing on the street just below our window. We watched for a while and enjoyed the music and then went down for a drink on the hotel terrace and watched the dancing some more.
We walked over to St. Stephen's Basilica but realized we had missed the concert we had planned to attend so went to a nearby restaurant and had a good dinner and then walked back to the hotel and had coffee on the terrace here.
