We arrived late Friday night to Siem Reap after being stranded for a few hours on the side of the road due to a flat tire. We met Caitlin, Kayleigh, Lauren and Chris on pub street for a few drinks and a farewell, as their trip comes to an end. The next morning we hung out all day playing cards and laying in hammocks along a roof top pool of a hotel we did not stay at, and completely took advantage of the facilities. That night we strolled up to the night market and enjoyed a massage for a dollar. The next morning Jeff, Dan and I woke up at 4:00am to watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Before the sun broke the horizon, we snuck into the temple to find the best spot to witness the sunrise, only to get caught by security and asked to leave. Taking the entire day to explore this ancient gem, seeing other temples such as Angkor Thom, Bareay Srei, Banteay Kdei and Ta Prohm. Some of the most amazing man made creations of its time combined with natures ability to fuse together with these historical structures, truly makes it a jaw dropping sight to see. These temples have been created to last for centuries and are still standing today. The larger than life trees surrounding these temples creates a fictional vibe as you walk in and out of these fantasy forests. With a perfect end to the day, as the sun circled the earth, we were privileged to visit this historical masterpiece one last time, as the sunset behind the trees, exposing new angles of light, shades and colours, on the main temple of Angkor Wat. Tomorrow will be spent exploring Siem Reap, finding new treasures before we head back to Thailand to some of its popular islands.
