Today I was up at 5:30am to catch the 7am local bus to Pai. I walked to the station and managed to arrive just in time to get a seat. The minibus was rough and they jam packed it with people.
I was squished on the backseat with 4 big ladies and a baby and the whole experience was anything but pleasant. What was supposed to take 3 hours ended up taking 5 hours.
My first impressions of Pai are quite good, very touristy - more hippy touristic like, loads of guest houses and Reggae Bars. The first thing I try and do is find a bed - unfortunately it is very busy and nearlly everywhere I go is full up or way above my price range. I head to the market to get some lunch, I pick this curry looking concoction in a plastic bag and this is the beginning of one horrific food poisoning.
After finishing curry I already feel it repeating on me, I think nothing of it and go back to finding a room. I manage to find a room at a woman's house/resteraunt for a decent price - I do however have to share with a Japanese guy who is not the most friendliest chap. At about 5pm I head out to buy some fruit and feel quite dizzy and faint and my belly begins to hurt. Racing back to my accommodations and the outback toilet I quickly realize I have a problem. At first came the diarrhea and moments later I felt myself needing to spew and spew I did nonstop for the next hour. Every time I would head back up to my room 30 minutes would pass and I would need to run back down to bathroom. This went on all night and even water I could not hold down. I got some lemonade which proved to be a very bad idea with the bubbles irritating my stomach more. At about 1am I took an Imodium and that stopped my visits to the toilet. Up there with one of the worst food poisonings of my travels so far and I really wondered of I would wake up today. That is 3 times now in Thailand getting food poisoning from bad food - I guess it's time to take note and really watch what I eat.
