Today I was up early waved goodbye to my two amazing hosts - Grace and Ellen. I headed into the city on the bus and into Main Station and that's where things started to get interesting. Firstly the train and bus station are linked and absolutely ginormous and to add to that there is very little signs in English - I wondered around lost asking random people and finally found the bus station. The infrastructure here is the best I have ever seen anywhere in the world and everything is done with perfection - a very livable city for me (maybe one day). The bus to Taichung took just over 2 hours and was so comfortable I was able to sleep the whole way. Arriving at Taichung I stopped at the 7/11 my favorite lunch spot for my now normal Chinese brothed eggs and boiled corn. I then made my way to my host Rebecca's place. Meeting Rebecca was a blessing such a down to earth, nice interesting girl from Kansas - who studied Chinese and has been living in China and Taiwan for last 5 years. As the sun was out we decided to go for a walk to the university and school where she works - a very interesting campus full of animals like deers, cows etc kind of like an agricultural college crossed with an academic university. We decided we would cook tonight so we visited this huge Taiwanese supermarket - heaven for me I spent hours looking at all the snacks, fruits, meets, items - so very interesting to see people through what they shop for and eat. Rebecca brought some salmon steaks and I brought the ingredients for my now famous ratatouille and some Japanese plum liquor to wash it down. We also got a heap of snacks which included dried mango, dried kiwi, dried guava and spicy seafood and wow all of it awsome. In the evening we went and checked out a nearby art district and a cool little night market. Rebecca's roommate a lovely Taiwanese girl came with us and brought us chicken feet to eat with dinner - I know crazy haha god I love my life :)
I cooked my ratatouille and Rebecca broiled the salmon steaks (marinate in little olive oil, soy sauce, honey and apple vinegar) and then broil in oven. We sat down to maybe the first time in history a combination of American style brothed salmon steaks, South American ratatouille, Taiwanese chicken feet and Japanese Plum Liquor. The whole meal was wonderful and the chicken feet absolutely delicious I am we'll and truly hooked a great snack. We discussed more travel ideas for my time in Taiwan then headed to bed.
