Today I caught a train up to Guimeraes - the European Capital of Culture and said to be where Portugal was born being the very first city.
I am staying with Couchsurfers named Cris and Telma in the city centre.
Ok wow these two girls are absolutely amazing - so kind, friendly outgoing and are making my time in Portugal unforgettable.
Cris had to go to work so Telma and I went for coffee and explored the city. The whole afternoon was a laugh Telma is hilarious constantly cracking jokes and making everything fun. We climbed the castle, went and met her Mum and then went shopping with the aim of making something extraordinary for dinner.
And so it was decided I would make Ratatouille - the famous south American dish consisting of Egg Plant, Corquette, red and green peppers, onions and tomato. And for starters some famous Portuguese cheese and bread! We obviously also grabbed a few bottles of wine.
Cris was due home at 11pm so we started cooking later in the hope she would be home just after we finished.
The whole cooking experience was a complete laugh from Telma wearing sunglasses to cut the onions to the funny stories of falling in rivers whilst in Amaterdam. The Ratatouille turned out amazing and we managed to finish a bottle of red before Cris had even got home. When Cris arrived she had with her a famous Portuguese drink called Ginja and chocolate cups to go with it.
So the drinking continued and next out came the Armaretto an almond liquor famous in cocktails. After this we decided it was time to go out to some bars. The great thing Cris's house is in the centre of the old city where all the best bars are.
It was really funny but every bar we went the people working new Telma and Cris and even gave me a free wine at the first bar. People in Portugal stand on the street and drink and socialize and the inside of the bars are empty for most part. We continued meeting more and more friends of Cris's and Telma's which meant more and more shots and by this stage I am quite drunk. We headed home by about 3pm finished of the Ratatouille and headed to bed.
A Telma Amoonta Bonita
