This morning I was up early to catch my plane to Riga.
The flight was great and even arrived 20 minutes early.
I caught a bus into the centre and there waiting were my two friends Inese and Jolanta. Today was Veterans day or Bear Slayers Day in Latvia so they had prepared a big feast to celebrate before we went down to the river to place candles in memory of fallen soldiers.
The meal was amazing: Roast beef, baked potato pieces and a cabbage and meat type stew along with various pickled Veges! I met my Latvian friends in Albania and so to Reminess we brought out the Raki and started drinking. We also drank a very sweet liquor named Black Balsam which is from Riga. After dinner we ate a traditional dessert and Ofcourse drank some more! By about 8pm we headed into the city to pay tribute with our candles and watch a free concert that was going on in the city centre. The city was alive with lots of people even though the weather was freezing and raining. By about 10:30 we headed back for some warm drinks and to get the hell out of the cold!
