First Open Water Dives!! Today I was up bright and early again ready for a morning of dive theory followed by our exam and then in the afternoon; out on the boat to do our first Open Water dives. The class was actually quite interesting and the exam was actually a little bit challenging. Joined by two other new Open Water Divers we setup out gear, did a quick swim test then boarded the boat for our first dive site - Little Bight. Unfortunately the good mask I had organized to borrow had been taken and so I would be presented with the same mask that gave me so much trouble last time. After a briefing we geared up and entered the water; putting on our BCDs, doing Buddy checks and then heading down to a few meters with our instructor Steff. Within 10 minutes I had finally got my confidence up and was remaining far more calmer under the water. All the activities complete; we headed down to our limit of 12 meters and swim around looking at all the beautiful fish and coral. Diving is kind of like flying underwater and I now know why people do this crazy activity. We went up, down, around things and tried some maneuvers before having to head back to the boat. A quick break, a short briefing and we suited back up whilst the captain drove us to our next dive spot. By now I felt much more comfortable in the water and started to really enjoy playing with my buoyancy and spotting various fish. We had a really long dive and all of us in the course had grins ear to ear having just completed our first Open Water Dives. After unloading and cleaning our gear we headed to the bar with our instructor and filled out our log bogs whilst talking about all the cool things we saw underwater. There was an amazing sunset tonight and we sat on the dock having drinks and socializing whilst watching the sun go down. Everyone then came back to our apartment for some food and to hangout before getting an early nights sleep as tommorow we are early for 7am dive trip.
