Dive School 101!! Today is the first day of real class so we were all up early having our breakfast out on the verandah whilst watching the sun come up. Class started at 7:30am and we were straight into the videos and answering questions about safety and equipment setup for scuba diving. The movies were very boring and actually quite an overload of information and had me more nervous then excited to try this scuba diving thing. At 11am we broke for a quick lunch and then it was back to the office to start some hands on stuff. We were taking to the dock where we were given all our equipment and shown how to setup our tanks, BCDs and regulators which I managed to pick up quite easily. We then loaded the dive boat and were given a short brief by stef out Dive Instructor on what would be taking place at the dive site. We got into our wetsuits, boarded the boat and we were off to our first dive site. At the site we got in our gear and jumped into the water and started on buddy checks and checking all our gear. We then moved into some shallow water and practiced some of the basics of diving. I had a lot of trouble with my mask leaking so Steffs assistant; Amanda - went and found me a new mask. Unfortunately the new mask was no better and I struggled with it even more which in turn took all my focus and ability to stay calm under the water. We practiced many skills underwater which all went over my head and I realized I don't have a good enough understanding of the theory behind scuba diving and so will need to dedicate time to studying the book. There were some fun moments and I am sure it will get better when I get confident. After a short break we went back in for our second dive and practiced some more technical skills and buddy diving techniques. It was nice to finish our last dive and I was glad to be out of the water and have the opportunity to talk with instructors about issues I was having - their reassurance had me motivated and confident for next dives. When we arrived back to the dock we got taught to clean our equipment and pack everything away. I headed straight for the supermarket; picked up a few things and then made my way back to the apartment to relax. In the evening I cooked a nice dinner and then relaxed watching a film and enjoying my new fan (this place is incredibly hot - day and night).
