After taking another sleeping pill I managed to get a good night of sleep and was up at 6am ready for the big day ahead. The plan was to walk about 25km today and make it to campsite Chileno (paid campsite) and if I had energy 3.5km more uphill to campsite Torres at the base of the towers. I had eaten breakfast and packed all my things and was on the trail by 8am; saying goodbye to my American friends: Berryl and her Father as I probably wont see them again.
The first 2.5 hours was a walk to the next campsite; Cuernos - I really had good pace today as I new I had a lot of ground to cover. At points I had to remind myself to look around and not miss all the amazing scenery. There were literally 100s of people on the trail now (popular section) and it was really annoying; big groups of twenty people every 5 minutes which meant constant stopping and letting them all pass, phones were ringing, music was blaring and people were much ruder. One positive I walked across a beautiful rocky beach next to a turquoise green river which literally took my breath away. I reached campsite Cuernos in under two hours with the help of loads of muesli bars and trail mix. I rested 5 minutes and then went again; this section there were lots of steep uphill acents and i hate to say it but more and more people. I ended up getting stuck behind a really annoying big group of Americans. The sun kept coming out so i would sweat and then the freezing winds would come chilling me to the bone. Eventually the whole body started to really hurt so I stopped for some corn chips and to drink loads of water which gave me a good little boost of energy. Finally I was close to Campsite Chileno and the signs were all promising. This part of the path was beautiful and once again packed with people and horse riders. I Raced up to Chileno - grabbed out my cooking kit, cooked up a couple packs of hot chicken soup mixed with some some soy meat and diced salami - was delicious but quite heavy. I took my shoes and socks off and to no suprise had some new blisters from my sweaty feet. I got talking to a nice Chilean couple whilst eating and nearly an hour and half later I was off - 1.5 hours uphill to the free campsite. After a big lunch now the stomach and still the body were aching. Continued on walking passing hundreds of people and eventually after an hour came to the base torres campsite. I found a nice spot and setup my tent and celebrated the day with some warm milky and sweet black tea. Hung my sweaty clothes out to dry and readied myself for another night without a shower. I talked to Ranger and he recommended hiking up tonight to see towers because it was clear but I just didn't have the energy and I would prefer to wait for sunrise and hopefully get a glimpse of the towers then. Another cold and wet night but with new motivation as tomorrow is my final day.
