This morning I woke up to no rain which was a pleasant surprise so i easily packed up my tent and had a late breakfast overlooking the lake and the hanging glacier. After taping up my blisters I left the campsite at 9:30am - feeling good. The first bit of the trek was uphill and exhausting - luckily I had some very scenic woodlands to pass through. At one mirador i got an exceptional view of hanging glacier and got some Spanish people to take a photo for me. Later i met an American girl her father and her Aunty - really nice people that asked if I would like to walk with them. We had a great chat about packing for such a trip, travels and life - the daughter was carrying a very unusual load of 12 carrots and 3 onions? However they were walking very quickly and so at our first rest spot I let them go on ahead. At the final mirador for the day we had another incredible view of another hanging glacier where I met another American girl and her father - who snapped a quick photo for me also. Only 20 mins further on was camp Perros - which was a very cold camp at the base of the snow covered John Gardner pass. The guy that worked at the camp was as white as a ghost and told me the showers were cold water only so I decided to skip on that idea. I set tent, organized stuff and cooked lunch - which was taking to long outside so i moved inside my tiny one man tent and cooked. I ate a delicious noodle/pea soup/tuna and dried mushrooms - very thick and stomach warming. I went and chatted with my friends Jake and Nancy (who i had met in my couchsurfers house in Puerto Natales), however it got too cold so I went into my tent and started drinking warm tea and got into my sleeping bag. It was horribly cold, wet and windy and laying inside tent was not so fun and the usual everyday rain was getting old. Tomorrow is the biggest and hardest day - summiting the snow-covered John Gardner pass at 1200m and needing to be up at 5am to beat the bad weather. For dinner I made a vegetable soup, with mushrooms and tuna - so delicious and once again warned me up perfectly - however there was lots of condensation in tent from the cooking. After paying the guy for my campsite it started to snow - oh s*** its going to be a very cold night. It was really difficult to sleep as it was very cold, I kept drinking hot chocolate and eating peanut butter all night hoping my body would warm up enough.
