Joey & Rachie's Travels 2006
Hey Peeps!!
I can't believe I am actually writing my New Zealand entry for the North Island. My trip is flying by!! How is everyone doing, hope everyone is doing ok. Missing you all lots :-)
Well......... New Zealand has turned me into a bit of an adrenaline junkie I can tell you!! I never in my life thought I would do some of the activities I have participated in.....Well That's what New Zealand must do to peeps, turn them crazy....hehe :-)
After spending two days in Auckland buying the much needed warm clothing...I don't think my little tops and my boob tubes are gonna do the trick here!!! We headed up to the Bay of Islands and stayed in a resort called Paihai. This resort reminded me of Cornwall...it's was so Beautiful!!From Paihai we went on a Dolphin trip. The Bay of Islands is home to lots of dolphin pods and so we managed to get really close to some. I even managed to take pictures of the Dolphins rathen than splashes...lol :-)
We also went on an 'Awsome Adventure' tour up to Cape Reinga which is the most Northen point of New Zealand. From Cape Reinga we travelled to Sand Dunes near Ninety Mile Beach and went Sand Boarding. This was so much fun!! When we got off the coach, I couldn't actually believe how steep the dunes were!! It was very scary but also lots of fun to do. I was hanging on for deer life all the way down though!!. However, I think the hike up the steep dunes was probably harder than boarding down the dune!!! Everyone had to keep stopping to breath as we we tried to make our way to the top! Sand Boarding was the highlight of the day :-)
After the Sand Boarding experience, the bus then drove down Ninety Mile Beach. The views from the Beach were really fantastic. We also got to taste some New Zealand "Fush n Chips"...ummm....very tasty!! This was a great trip.
From the Bay of Islands, we travelled South to Waitomo Caves. Waitomo is famous for Black Water Rafting inside the Glow Worm Caves. This tour really got your adrenline going!! The activity included riding the rapids inside the cave on an inflatable tyre, jumping backwards through waterfalls and climbing inside the caves. The caves were pitch black, and the only light was provided by the Glow Worms which were so amazing!! Our Guide "Snappy" was a real character and was very crazy!!! She really did help keep everyone going though as the caving can be really touch at times. It was a fantastic feeling finishing the activity. As you can see from the pictures, Jumping into a freezing cold river backwards onto an inflatable tyre certainly at about nine in the morning was a shock to the system..hehe!! But I absolutely loved the experience!!
From Waitomo, we travelled to Rotorua. Rotorua is famous for its 'bubbling mud pools' and for the whole city smelling like...wait for it Guys....Egg!!!And my oh my does the town smell...lol!!! :-).
At Rotorua we decided to go Zorbing. This activity has to be the funniest thing I have ever done. Me and Rachie were laughing and screaming our heads off!! Right...here's the science bit... Zorbing is a cross between 'making like a Hampster' in an Inflatable ball and being chucked into a washing Machine, and then rolled down a hill...You know... like you do!!! Me and Rachie got soaked!!When we were about to jump into the Zorb, The guy told us to keep rolling the ball and standing all the way down!!. This was impossible!! As soon as we started rolling the Zorb at the top of the hill, we both fell straight onto our bums due to the water and spent the entire Zob ride slipping and slidding all over the place. It was Hilarious!!! :-)
From Rotorua, we travelled to Taupo. Taupo was pretty average really......just jumped out a plane from twelve thousand feet...The usually thing..lol!! I still can't believe I did it though. I remember sitting on the edge of the plane and thinking..."Oh my god...I Can't believe I am just about to jump out of a plane". Me and Rachie got handy cams to capture the experience. The guy in my tandom filmed my dive. Something everyone can have a good chuckle at Christmans time!!! I do look like a chipmunk though which is funny!!The freefall was unbelievable....The 45 seconds before the parachute opens lasts so long. When we landed me and Rachie were on such a high!!! As I am not keen on hights peeps...skydiving was a real achivement!!!
Oh by the way...An important announcement....Bear is actually on holiday at present and is not avaliable for Photos at this time. However, Bear will be returning soon..hehe!!! :-)
