Joey & Rachie's Travels 2006
Kia Orana from the Cook Islands!!
How is everyone doing?
Here's my third journal entry coming to you from the South Pacific.....I can't believe how quickly time is going and that this is actually my third destination. It's a month today since I left England....Scary!!!
I Had a blast in the cook Islands. The main Island Rarotonga, the Island we are staying on, is so Beautiful and has so much character.
It's really strange because The Island is so small that you can see the whole Island from the plane when you land. The view from the plane was fantastic!!
Vara's, the hostel we are staying at, is right on the beach and has a real buzz. There's always people to talk to and the other backpackers are so friendly. It's a good place to socialise and Chat!! A good place for me then!!hehe
On the first Friday, Rachel, me and another girl, Kathy, waded across to the Island opposite Muri Beach, the beach we are staying on. The water only came to your waste, so It was really easy to walk to the Island. The Island is very similar to the picture on this page. It was great to walk around it and chill on the beach.
That evening, we had our first experience of a night out on the Cook Islands. We went to a club called TJ's, the Island's main night club with two American Guys called Adam and Jordan, Chris and Lea, Kathy, myself and Rachel. Others from the hostel were also there and it was a really fun night. I have some good pictures of the night to!!hehe
On the Saturday morning, Rachel, me and our new dorm mate Julia, a really nice girl from Germany, went to the Local Market. It was jewllery galore, as you can imagine Guys....I was in my element!. We spent that afternoon exploring the town and looking around the local shops.
On the Monday, we chilled on the beach and had another night out. Monday night is the 'Famous Backpackers Disco'. We went to the club with Olivia and Lisa, two really nice girls who were in our dorm and a few others from our hostel. Well......When we arrived my first Impression was that the place was like a local village hall. It was so funny, the place was empty and very tiny. Also, walking into the club whilst 'Right Said fred's "I'm too Sexy" was playing really was the Icing on the cake and made people laugh!!! It was very funny. However, the club was soon packed out and we had a realy fun night with lots of boogeying!!!
On the Thursday, after chilling on the beach, we went to an Island night in town. The Island night hosted a show where dances performed Traditional cook Island Dancing. It was really fun to watch. They got people up from the audience...and yes guys...I was dragged up by one of the dances to take part in the Dancing. It was very funny to perform and I think Rach may have a few pictures to prove it....Oh dear!!!
On the Sunday, Rach and I hired bikes and cycled around the Island. We cycled...wait for it peeps...18 miles. I know...we're are crazy you must be thinking!!! It was really good fun. I think my legs didn't thank me for it on Monday though!!! But a bit of exercise really did feel good!!
On the Sunday night, following our bike ride, we went for a really nice meal at a place called the Flame Tree near our hostel. I think we deserved it peeps after our crazy bike ride ;-)hehe. We went with Olivia and Lisa, our new dorm mate Fred and Two Swiss Guys Patrick and Thomas. It was really nice to have some good food, it was a welcomed break from the Backpacker supernoddle diet!! If you've been travelling, you know what I mean!
On the Monday, Rach and I decided to visit a tourist attraction called "The Cultural Village". In the Cultural Village, the tour guides take it's guests to the different huts which demonstrate traditional methods used in the olden day Cook Island way of life. It was a really interesting tour which showed it's guests the traditional way of living for people in South Pacific. It was also great to learn things about the Island and the South Pacific during our stay.
On the Wednesday night, we went to a bar called Banana Court where they were hosting a free vodka night. Free, that is, until the Vodka ran out which, as you can imagine, with lots of young backpackers in the club did not last long!!!. The night was really good and It was another excuse to have a good dance to some cheesy music!! Well..... you know me guys! Unfortunately, no Girls Aloud played though!!
Well peeps.....that's just about it for my stay in the Cook Islands. We are off to Fiji tonight, so I will be writing another update soon.
I have had such a great time here, It is well worth a visit. The beaches are Beautiful and the place is very relaxed!!
I hope everyone is having a fab summer and enjoying the lush weather your having!!!
I'm missing you all so much.
Take care all of you.
Lots of Love
Joey
