Our last day in and around Kuching was spent exploring the town and we also stopped by the interesting Sarawak museum and art gallery.
The day we flew into Mulu. The flight with MAS was short and odd. They had one of the most comical safety videos I've ever seen; including lines like "we know you love your mobile phone very, very, very much, but please switch it off..." and "remove high heels before using the emergency exit, even if they're expensive".
Our descent into Mulu was the most abrupt dive I've ever done in a plane and we barely flattened out before we touched down - I later learned this waste norm, possibly due tithe size of the plane. It still weirds me out a bit.
Mulu involved some nice walks. The first day involved a tour of the largest (or as I'm told, recently made second largest) cave in the world. The cave is inhabited by many species of bats. At the end of the cave walk we sat outside and watched as a few hundred thousand of the 3Mil-odd bats flew out for a nightly feeding.
We did a couple of other cave walks in the area over the next few days and also did a canopy walk, which didn't reward us with hornbills or monkeys, but was beautiful nonetheless.
Much of our down time was spent hanging in our awesome (but pricey) hut and drinking with Mark and Lis, who we seem to be paralleling in our journey.
The last day was spent sorting out transport to and permits for our Sipadan diving.
