We had to spend a night in Kota Kinabalu on our way to the south-east of Sabah for our dive trip. We hoped to at least see Rene, but he was playing a gig. instead we found the night markets to be great value and we even chilled on KK's impressive-enough promenade for some beers and a sheesha.
The next day we were back on yet another plane to Tawau and off to Semporna, the launching point of boats to Mabul, the base for our diving over the next few days.
Unfortunately the morning we woke to depart for Mabul Romaine came down Ill with some nasty bug and we had to cancel diving and push for another day.
It worked out in the end and I at least managed a fruitful snorkel in replacement of my dives (saw a couple of turtles - one green-sea and one hornbil - and a barracuda), but even with a night's rest she wasn't 100% and we barely got one dive out of her the next day. I managed to knock out three dives while she rested more in the hope our day at Sipadan wouldn't be ruined.
I got to see more turtles, crocodile fish, frog fish, a seahorse, touch a cuttle fish and all sorts of other fish, we also saw Moray eels, a big one too.
Tomorrow we dive at Sipadan (as long as nothing goes wrong). Fingers crossed.
