I just returned from spending my day in the alps hiking through the clouds. The countryside is stunningly beautiful throughout Germany. I toured the castle Neuschwanstein, which is also what Walt Disney based his castle on. I learned all about "crazy" King Ludwig II(If anyone is really bored, his story is very interesting). The hike took about 45 minutes from the bus stop to the castle and I enjoyed every minute of it. There was so much detail inside the castle, I really wanted to take a picture of everything(unfortunately it was all copyrighted and they were really strict on pictures).
Yesterday in Munich, I went on a really fun walking tour and the best part is that it was completely free(just tip a few euro). I met a nice Canadian from Ottawa named Kathryn at the tour and we ended up hanging out for a while. I've been debating with myself whether Canadians or Australians are nicer(I swear I haven't met one mean one). On the tour, we went to the exact spot where Hitler led his first revolt(and almost died) and learned quite a bit about the history of Munich. It's a really neat city and they LOVE their beer. After the tour was over, we ventured over to English Park and saw some Germans surfing in a river. I hate to say it, but it might be the coolest thing I've seen on this trip so far. Who knew that people surfed in Munich. Kathryn was leaving for Venice that night so I met with some guys at the hostel bar and we had a good time at one of the beer garderns.
I'm a little sad to be leaving Munich tomorrow but really excited for my upcoming cities. I can't wait to explore Berlin, I've heard so many good things about it. I'm not sure what time I'm leaving tomorrow but I should probably find out if I need a reservation. I'll post when I can, love and miss everyone back home. Cheers, J
