I'va had a stonking 24 hours - if you're easily made envious, look away now.
Last night was an amazing sunset, which I attempted to take the perfect photo of - for at least an hour... luckily, liquid refreshment was at hand. I've seen a couple of spectacular sunrises at Cullercoats as well, which bizarrely made me slightly homesick. If the rest of my life is a blank sheet of paper, then I'd like to still live near an east- or west-facing coast - surely not too much to ask...!
I started to contemplate where the sun was going to, so can anyone answer me this - when the sun is rising in Cullercoats, where has it just set?
In a similar vein, if the next Newcastle game is scheduled for a time which doesn't exist for me because I cross the international date line - what happens? Does the game happen in an infinitesimally small amount of time? Or does it not happen at all? If the latter, do we stay fourth bottom and stay up? Come on the time difference!
I'm starting to recognise the roosters by their calls. There's one nearby (not Bertie) that sounds like Mr Punch saying "lick the baby". Actually, every single bird on this island sounds like Mr Punch. It's like walking down the longest pier in the world, and being able to hear 1000 Mr Punch's all at once. "Lick the baby" sounds a little unreconstructed, but then I guess I should remember that it's just a rooster. Maybe I've been here too long...
Anyway, today the sun was blazing down, and I went on a boat tour of the lagoon. Hermit crabs, nesting caspian terns, terns dive-bombing on flying fish, perfectly cooked fish for lunch, four amazing desert islands (motus), and finally snorkelling in an impossibly clear turqoise lagoon, where I saw more types of fish than I've ever seen outside an aquarium. I loved today.
Big choice to make now - go back to the beachside hut and pack for the flight to Rarotonga tomorrow morning, or buy some beers and watch the sunset again? Mmmmmmmm......
