Hello all,
I seem to have messed up my last blog entry, so there are some gaps to fill in - I'll come back to them later, I'm on island time now (think manana but less frantic).
Arrived in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands at 6am (it's nearly 6pm now), and thought I might have to wait 9 hours for a 45 minute flight to Aitutaki. Fortunately, the earlier flights weren't as full as they appeared online (and the luggage allowance was quite generous too - the lady on duty didn't even look at the scale), so I got to Aitutaki at 8.45 instead of 4.15pm. Result.
Quite cloudy and raining on and off - just to stop everyone getting too jealous at the photo on this posting. Having said that, give me a balcony overlooking the beach and a book and I'm happy! :-) The beach is amazing - I'm at a self-catering place called Sunny Beach Lodge, where the bungalow is lovely, and it shares the same beach as Pacific Resort, which has won all kinds of international prizes as a boutique hotel.
So, ignoring the 'private - guests only' signs, I wandered along the beach to have lunch at the posh gaff. Yeah, it's OK - amazing bar, wooden beachfront cottages built up the hillside, infinity pool, yada yada - but do they have their own rooster? No, I don't think so.
After travelling nearly 24 hours (loooong drive to LA - I'll save that for another post, maybe), I decided to have a siesta. Head had just touched pillow when my local rooster hopped up onto a tree stump right outside my window and started to crow his little lungs out. There will be blood.
Initial report from Paradise then: no mobile phone reception, rain, and my own personal alarm cockerel. One out of three isn't bad for the first day! :-)
