Happy New Year everyone! I'm sorry this is so late and havent been in touch since last year but have been very busy touring Oz (sorry to rub that in again!). So far we've been to Sydney for New Year which was amazing. We managed to get a spot at the botanical gardens after queuing at 1pm which gave us a view of the opera house and harbour bridge. It was a long day waiting around but the fireworks were well worth it! Unfortunately, they were serving horrible wine and can't remember much else! The only unusual thing was that hardly anyone acknowledged it was new year at midnight - not like us Scots at all!! After Sydney we went to Byron Bay and I decided to give surfing a go. That was a great experience and even managed to stand up a couple of times after practicing for a morning. Byron was brilliant and didn't want to leave. We went to a backpackers club called Cheeky Monkeys and danced the night away on tables! Following Byron, we headed to Brisbane and caught up with a friend who lives there so got a tour around the sights and ended up in the casino. I've just come back from a 3 day, 2 night trip to Fraser Island - we had a group of 11 and got on well. Its a beautiful place, you can only get about on a 4 wheel drive as its a sandy island. We did get stuck a couple of times and nearly rolled the van but it was all good fun. I even got to drive (to help them out of a sand dune so feel very useful!) There were plenty fresh water lakes to swim in - its the prettiest place I've seen so far. The best moment was walking along a beach with a lone dolphin following us, surfing the waves much better than I could have done! Now I'm in Airlie Beach and am about to do the Whitsundays trip for 3 days. Can't wait! Will update you soon, hope you are all well and not too hungover from NY festivities. All for now, Jo xx
