Josh's Gap Year
Well Sat started off a bit poorly as it was raining which didn't get much better throughout the day but. i got on the overnight cruise boat/Barge (4pm) an old car ferry which was really nicely done up and we set of for our first destination a cove near and island. on the way there chatted to alot of the other people on the boat boat in total there can't of been more than 20 of us, there was then a shooting competion whilst we where moving off the back of the boat where a plastic bottle was being dragged behind it and you had to shoot it with an air rifle i missed all 3 times some other people did hit it though. i also had a few games off poole cos there was a table on board it quite an intrestin way to play poole difficult. once we got to our destination the rain had stopped but it was still really overcast. We had fishing of the back of the boat (I got the first fish a mackerall?spelling which was about 1-2lbs not very big) which was really chilled. then after that there was a BBQ just as it started to get dark lots of mussels and stuff like that. once it was dark enough there was a night canoe in groups of 8 and it was amazing cos you cud see all the phospherecents?spelling as you paddled through the water and as you got closer to shore you cud see fish swimming around in the water as just green flash's flying past your boat it was amazing u can't imagine it unless you've done it. once we got back i went for a night swim round the boat which was just as cool cos as you swim underwater you can see your hands moving through the water as if they are caped in green flames same with your legs it was amazing. after that had a few beers chilled out till about 1 then went to bed.
In the morning up early to an awsome view as you can see in the pic finally the sun was out!!!!!!!!!!!!! went down and had breakfast we then went off to do some mussel pickling so we where all dropped off by a rock in the sea with our snorkeling gear and dived down for mussels i tell you what its alot harder than it sounds once you've dived down deep enough (which is hard enough on its own) you've got to manage to get the b***** of the rock and then swim up with out swallowing the ocean, in the end my only catch was a large sea snail which just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time luckily for him he wasn't edible so he went back. after all that we went to another island on which we walked to the top for some awsome views and then chilled out on the beach did a bit of snorkelling where we saw some crayfish then back to the boat to go home. on the journey back i got to try some Raw Mussels which taste just like normal mussels just alot saltier and Raw Sea Urchin eggs (can't remeber the proper name) which are a maori delicassey which where ok nothing particually special. anyway that about rounds up that trip. so il leave it at that.
