Our time in Kl was strange for me as i had been there several years earlier. WE stayed on the same road, Bukit Bintang, but this time instead of sleeping in the comfort of NOVA Hotel we stayed in the cramped surroundings of a room above a curry house. As we walked down the road memories and recognitions flowed back such as the hundreds of massage sellers lining the street and the cultural maze that is China Town.
There are only two things that can be done in Kl and that consists of sight seeing and shopping. we decided to get the later one out the way first by visiting the Bukit Bintang Shopping MAll. This is the biggest shopping complex ive ever seen, putting Meadowhall to shame. It has about 8 to 10 floors each about 1km square containing 100's of shops each floor. we spent the majority of the time getting lost and giving thourough tests to each and every electric massage chair. The place is set out like a Casino with hidden exits and no windows so you have no clue what time it is. Much to our surprise we finally left to find it was dark outside.
The following day we resisted the temptation for more bargains and caught the skytrain monorail for the KL tower and Petronas Towers. We went up each one in speed lifts and stupidly thought it would be a challenge to see if we could go that far up without equalising our ears. They were ringing for the rest of the day! Once at the top we were rewarded with stunning views of a surprisingly smog free city before neading back to China Town to get a meal.
China Town was exactly as i remembered it from the smell of roasting chestnuts to the hoards of dvd sellers. We had the unfortunate experience to wander off the main market road and into the back roads where all the restauant kitchens were. as we walked down the dark roads we came across so many rats it was difficult to walk. The pied piper would have been jelous. However these restaurants were our only food source so we tucked into a tasty meal and thankfully avoided spending the night on the toilet.
OUr short stay in KL was over so we boarded the Air Asia flight to Kota Kinabalu in the rainforest of Borneo.
