For the first time since we've been here we managed to stick to the scenic route between destinations. It sounds like a small thing, but I suppose we're still getting used to all this travelling stuff and up until now we've been more concerned about the destination than the journey, and weve just been taking the most direct route. But I guess we're starting to feel a bit more comfortable and we actively searched out a slower route that would take us through some towns. and it was so much nicer and so worth it. Firstly, Lynn is not a speedy girl, and although she can get down the motorway at 75, she's a bit noisy about it, and not really that fun to drive. But get her in to top gear on a B road and you can cruise at 50 miles an hour at 750rpm. It's crazy how low that car revs. Secondly it's just nice not to have to look over your shoulder to see if a Belgian lorry is about ram you off the motorway. But mostly, its that you get to see more of the countries that we're here to see. And our trip from Neerpelt to Dilsen-Stokkem was beautiful. Some really amazing views over rolling countryside and we went through a town called Bree, which had a Friday market on. So we stopped and parked up to see what was going on. The entire town centre was covered in market stalls. At least six or seven roads were full of stalls. We were tempted by a few things, most of them Belgian Waffles. But we managed to save our pennies this time, (to make up for some expensive days earlier in the week) and carried on to the next Camperstop.
Dilsen Stokkem was lovely, if a little quiet for a friday afternoon (maybe they were all in Bree??). the stop was at the tourist info, which was next a lake. Unfortunately we were parked in a car park again, and we couldn't see the lake from the car park. But we didn't mind. It was sunny and we sat on our blanket on the grass next to the van and did some reading and some brainteasers. We could use the loo in the tourist info while it was open, which Becci was thankful for. So we agreed to go back at 4:50 before it closed to use the facilities. We remembered at 5:05. It was closed. Balls! Which meant another midnight rekky in to the bushes for a wee. This spurred us on to find another stop for the next night. We had one vaguely planned out and which would allow us to visit Liege on the way there. I wanted to take Becci to an old Belgian city, as we were the wrong side of Belgium to visit Bruge or Brussels or Antwerp. Also, this particular camperstop, was in a town that had a chocolate museum, which, to be perfectly honest, instantly sealed the deal for both of us. We may have both failed to consider the fact that this place doesn't have a toilet either.... Oops!
