right so now i have finished my fraser story...
got back from my whitsundays trip a couple of hours ago. feeling clean for the first time in 3 days! arrived in airlie nice and early after travelling all night, chilled out by my pool then met a friend, vicky, at the place where we were due to check in for our boat the next day. all went fine, went for a wander and found airlie was beautiful and so SO hot, immediately reminded me of mexico - it was humid! a couple of girls in my dorm invited me out that evening, had a great night, met loads of new people and saw a whole bunch of people from my earlier travels, finding a guy from my surf trip was also on the same boat as me, all looked great for the coming trip!
sat morning the sun was shining brightly again, perfect start to the trip - stuck some tunes on the boat - everyone loving MY tunes lol was cool!boat was pretty small - only 11 of us but it was pretty 'cosy' should i say... only allowed 1 min showers each day and absolutely no shampoo/soap or anything to be used. joy. bunks were tiny. stopped off at a spot to do some snorkelling on the reef - after being given a full briefing on jelly fish (which ones could kill you and which ones just gave you a nasty sting...) and why we had to wear some extremely attractive stinger suits... we ungracefully sploshed into the water (after having seen a not so dangerous but horribly large jelly float past) and doggy paddled off towards the reef - soon coming across some beautifuly coloured fish who were not afraid to swim all around you right up to your mask. vicky and i had bought a disposable underwater camera which we are getting processed now so hopefully we got some decent pics. having had a sucessful session i made my way back to the boat, where 5 m away i managed to get stung. on the face... obv not a killer one otherwise i would have been in hospital now but all the same it stung! when i got to the boat i found that there were 4 of us who had been got, including the skipper. aparently someone had seen a stray unattached tentacle floating around near the boat which explained why none of us had seen the b*****. so vinegar was everywhere lol tasted lovely - not - did make me want fish and chips though! we then went for a sail to another island where there were meant to be loads of turtles, went ashore to walk through a forest (yes another forest, imagine my delight) up to a look out point. i managed to force myself to go along with the group, and was soooooooooooo glad i'd done it because the view was incredible. could take forever to describe it but i wont. that evening we stayed in that bay, totally chilled out and relaxed we were all asleep embarrassingly early!lol saw a baby shark chasing some fish that evening too, and some turtles with enormous heads in the morning.
then the rain came
what a shame. whitehaven beach was a wash out, so dissappointing. but, determined to still enjoy whitehaven we got out some beers and jumped into the little red speed boat that tok us onto the beach - played footie and vollyball in the pouring rain and wrote messages in the sand for the rain to go away! in th eend we got back to the boat feeling pretty low and cold, then went snorkelling again - oh running out of time will continue tomorrow!
(continued)snorkelling at mantray bay was lovely, even bigger and brighter fish, we saw a ray float under us which was pretty cool and some pretty big parrot fish.we were all looking for a resident tame fish who would let you touch him but instead we found a turtle!sooooooooooo cool, we were all very happy!then to complete the day we saw a few wild dolphins we anchored at a place called blue pearl that evening, and after the wash out of a day, there was a beautiful sunset, everyone was in good party spirit, and we got the drinking games going... after a couple of hours of various classics it was chill time - the skipper had a guitar and one of the crew from a boat nextdoor came over to basically jam for the rest of the evening. out came a bottle with rice in to make a shaker, a pan, wooden spoon and tambourine and we were off with any song we could think of. great fun!that evening we saw bright orange squid swimming around, and millions of stars above.three of us slept up on deck that night under the little tent like thing (see photos)- couldnt face another night below decks in the damp and cramped bunks. was lovely, had the fresh air, a yoga mat, sheet, blanket and pillow so was very comfy, and slept so well, except for being woken up a fair few times by the torrential downpours.on the last day we sailed and snorkelled again, with even more bigger brighter fish. went out that evening (yesterday) with the people on the boat, had a great time but definately had too much goon... smoothie today is helping my body recover...
hmmm the sun is trying to shine and seeing as its rained pretty hard recently i am off to the beach! will put up photos later today - promise!!!!!much love to you all! xx
