hmmm so not actually on fraser yet - stupid thing wouldnt let me put rainbow beach on the map...

so the sun is out, but as yet i've not seen any rainbow coloured sands...the tide is so blummin high at the moment from the less than perfect weather we've recently been having. but the sand i did see was normal colour and black, mixed in and seperate at the same time without looking brown... looks pretty cool. my hostel here is nice, ensuite bathroom and kitchenette thing between 6 of us. pool is nice too but hostel size = small. went down to the beach yesterday morning after free pancakes for breakkie :) but it was closed due to dangerous conditions - had a little chat with the lifeguard about the sharks etc cos around the corner on fraser island you are not allowed to swim in the ocean literally because of the resident 'man eating sharks' ie tiger sharks and great whites and killer box jellyfish hanging around - but you are allowed to swim on this beach if conditions are right. she pointed out the shark nets but then didnt hesitate to tell me that they didnt really do much good in keeping them away... hmmmm nice comforting thought there! you are just not safe in this place - on land or in water! still, i am going ocean kayaking with dolphins hopefully not sharks this afternoon lol

this morning loads of people have gone off to fraser for their camping-not-toilets-no-shower for 3 day adventure. i am a flashpacker this weekend and am staying in a much more comfprtable hostel with showers, toilets and all meals cooked for me :) and where i hopefully wont have giant huntsmen spiders waking me up in the morning or dingoes watching me as i fall asleep... was so so so funny watching the campers' informative video yesterday - the whole thing was about staying away from the dingoes and what to do if they attack!! what will i do if i see a puppy dingoe!!! ahhh the adventure awaits... good thing is my tour is for backpackers not families etc so although i am not joining the campers i should have a good group - met a couple of girls who are doing it too last night - but sadly are in a different group to me.
