Hello everybody,
I need to do a bit of a recap! After Ko Tao, headed to Krabi and Ko Phi Phi which were hands down the most beautiful beaches so far. I squeezed in plenty of sea kayaking and boat trips, including a brief stop at monkey bay. All these monkeys descend on the beach to get melon off everyone. I thought monkeys were docile and friendly. Well the alpha male, when he wasn't trying to hump everone in sight, was launching himself on our kayaks, snarling and attacking small children. Stay in the water...
I then headed north on a combination of overnight buses and sleeper trains to Chang Mai in the north. It is Thailand's second biggest city, stocked full of temples and a much more laid back vibe than Bangkok. I headed over to Pai, a small town nestled in the mountains for three days. It is reached by a stomach turning winding road that snakes round the mountains. I managed to hold my breakfast down. Just. Pai is extremely laid back, situated by the river and plenty of comfy seats to lounge around in. I did do a day of white water rafting which was beserk and bloody dangerous! The rapids were out of this world and had a variety of weird names like 'washing machine' and whirlpool' which made no sense until you were about to hit them. Our raft didn't flip over once, although the canadian guy did fall out. Don't worry we were all wearing helmets...
I'm now back in Chang Mai, and am booked in for a cooking course tomorrow. I've been told to show up with an empty stomach so hopefully it'll involve copious amounts of eating as well as cooking. I'll be crossing the border into laos on the 23rd and cannot wait!
I hope the UK is still surviving without me. And I hope you've had a few hours of sunshine..
